WASSUP MGA KA-PEERS! ๐๐
โBy failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.โ
โ Benjamin Franklin
In the past few weeks, the Philippines has experienced a series of earthquakes that have damaged infrastructures and affected the lives of many Filipinos (ABC News, 2025). These events have caused anxiety and fear among communities, impacting their emotional and mental well-being.
Recognizing the importance of preparedness in promoting community resilience, the Cavite State University โ Trece Martires City Campus, through the Department of Psychology, takes action to raise awareness and strengthen readiness for โThe Big Oneโ โ a potential large-scale earthquake that could greatly affect Luzon and nearby provinces.
๐ก In line with its commitment to education and public welfare, the Department of Psychology proudly presents the
Webinar on Earthquake Preparedness and Mental Health Awareness
with the theme โWhen the Big One Comes, We Stand as One.โ
This initiative aims to enhance participantsโ understanding of earthquake safety, effective response strategies, and psychological resilience during and after disasters. It also emphasizes the vital role of mental health in disaster management, as natural calamities often lead to heightened anxiety, depression, and trauma (Maramis et al., 2024; Uy & Bernardo, 2022).
Through this program, Cavite State University continues to uphold its commitment to community development and well-being, supporting the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being; SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities) by fostering safety, mental resilience, and a culture of preparedness.
