In a bid to swiftly resolve a viral road‑safety violation, the Land Transportation Office Region VI (LTO‑6) has officially served a show cause order to the registered owner of a motorcycle after video footage captured the rider performing a dangerous “Superman” stunt along Orange Cliff in Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental on July 13.
The order was personally delivered at the rider’s residence in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City, by Ms. Shiela Mae C. Alulod, head of the LTO‑6 Intelligence and Investigation Unit, together with Ms. Relin B. Reyes, Chief of the Regional Law Enforcement Section. The order was approved by Regional Director Atty. Gaudioso P. Geduspan II.
Invoking Section 48 of Republic Act No. 4136 (Reckless Driving)—which prohibits operating a vehicle “recklessly or without reasonable caution… so as to endanger the… safety… of any person”—the order warns that the stunt “poses serious risks to public safety” and could lead to suspension or revocation of both the motorcycle’s registration and the rider’s driver’s license.
Under the show cause order, the owner must submit a sworn written explanation within five calendar days, detailing the circumstances of the July 13 incident and why administrative sanctions should not be imposed. Failure to comply will be treated as a waiver of the right to be heard, allowing the LTO‑6 to decide the case based on existing evidence.
“This show‑cause order reaffirms our commitment—under DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon and Acting Assistant Secretary, LTO Chief Atty. Greg G. Pua Jr.’s enforcement campaign—to hold reckless riders accountable,” Director Geduspan emphasized, noting that all available evidence will be carefully reviewed before any penalties are assessed.
Assistant Regional Director Jeck D. Conlu reiterated that stunts like ‘Superman’ on public roads endanger lives. “We urge all motorists to obey traffic laws and prioritize safety—especially on mountain passes where conditions can be unpredictable.”
