First Ride at Manticao: Mud, Ruts, and Pure Fun
Despite the heavy rain the day before, nothing could stop our excitement as we finally explored the trails of Manticao, Misamis Oriental. I've been wanting to ride here for a while now, and luckily—today was no longer drawing (as we say in Filipino slang). It finally happened.
Together with the CDO Enduro community led by Doc Ryan and our friends from Malaybalay (Biker sa Bukid and his crew), we hit the trails, guided by local riders Glayd DriksLah and Keval Sebastien Manales . We managed to ride two different trails—each with their own flavor and challenges.
To reach the trailhead, you could pedal, but with its 5km distance and decent elevation, we opted for the smarter way up: the legendary Bao-Bao (tuktuk). Work smart, not hard!
Trail 1: 3.1km Fire Road Mayhem
The first trail was a 3.1km fire road descent—wide and open but made gnarly by rain ruts, floating rocks, and slippery soil that felt like riding on bathroom tiles. While the wide track tempts you to go fast, the unpredictable surface keeps you humble. A few of us hit the deck on the slick parts, but thanks to Bitoy’s advice ("Don’t brake and just roll it!"), we started to get the hang of it. The trail offered epic views too—a reward for those who dared to look up.
It was definitely a different kind of ride compared to our usual CDO trails. The terrain and trail behavior brought a fresh challenge to everyone.
Trail 2: 2km Natural Singletrack
Next up was a 2km singletrack descent, made more technical by deep ruts from the recent rains. Being a natural trail, conditions change depending on the weather, so it keeps you on your toes. Several stream crossings added a muddy twist, and while the grip was sketchy at times, the cool shade from the trees and stunning mountain views made it all worth it.
Compared to the first trail, this one had more tree cover—great for keeping cool when the sun’s out.
Until Next Time, Manticao
Just as we finished the second trail, the rain returned and called it a day. But overall, it was an unforgettable ride—fun, challenging, and definitely something different from what we're used to in CDO.
Clyde mentioned there are still two more trails we haven’t explored yet. So yup… we’ve got a reason to come back!
