- 1 Peter 5:7
"Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."

God invites us to give Him all our worries, reminding us of His deep care and concern for us.

Now when Jesus came into the district of Caesare'a Philip'pi, he asked his disciples, "Who do men say that the Son of man is?"

And they said, "Some say John the Baptist, others say Eli'jah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets."

He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?"

Simon Peter replied, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."

And Jesus answered him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jona! For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.

And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the powers of death shall not prevail against it.

I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."

Reflection:

Today’s reading highlights key truths, one being that evil forces will never defeat the Church. This should bring us joy.

Throughout history, many institutions have risen and fallen. Powerful governments and organizations have vanished, but the Catholic Church remains and will last forever. This enduring presence is Jesus’ promise that we celebrate today.

The Church has endured not only because of good leaders. From the start, there has been corruption and conflict. Some popes acted immorally, cardinals and bishops behaved arrogantly, certain priests sinned, and religious orders were divided. Yet, the Church—the Bride of Christ—persists because Jesus assured us it would.

Today’s media can reveal the sins of Church members, causing scandals and doubts about our connection to the Church. However, these flaws should inspire us to strengthen our faith in the Church. Jesus didn’t promise perfect leaders, but He did promise that evil won't overcome the Church.

Reflect today on your view of the Church. If scandals have shaken your faith, focus on Jesus and His promise. Evil will not triumph over the Church. Trust in this promise and take joy in this wonderful truth.

I call you my friends, says the Lord, for I have made known to you all that the Father has told me.

And he called to him the multitude with his disciples, and said to them, "If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me.

For whoever would save his life will lose it; and whoever loses his life for my sake and the gospel's will save it.

For what does it profit a man, to gain the whole world and forfeit his life?

For what can a man give in return for his life?

For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of man also be ashamed, when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels."

Amen
