Republic Act No. 12209, which rationalizes the safety measures and penalties under RA 11235, removes the controversial front metal plate requirement and introduces more reasonable penalties, addressing what many in the riding community viewed as unjust and discriminatory provisions.

“A hard-fought win for our motorcycle-riding community, and a promise I made that is now fulfilled,” said Senior Deputy Majority Leader Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito, principal author of the newly enacted law.

Ejercito also pointed out the long-standing issue of motorcycle plate number delays.

He added: “This law will help solve the more than 10 million plate number backlog. Eh hindi na nga ma-supply ang plate numbers, dodoblehin pa sana ng front plate requirement.”
