Grade 8 Homerooms Turn Br. Paul Hall into Global Kitchen

On Monday, April 21, the Grade 8 homerooms turned Br. Paul Meuten Hall into an international culinary stage for the much-anticipated Taste of the World competition.

Each section represented a different country through a three-course meal, showcasing not just culinary skills but also creativity, teamwork, and cultural appreciation.

8-St. Francis of Assisi (SFA), representing Mexico, swept the competition, taking home first place in Best Food, Best Booth Design, Best Presenters, and Overall Champion. Student chefs Vito Yapit, Jasen Esperame, Jomari Luna, Ryu Irikata, Dean Santos, Kraig Cantos, and Vicente Carlos impressed with a menu of burritos, chocolate hot pies, and micheladas. Their presentation of Mexican culture was elevated by presenters Akia Besin and Jhones Dacayanan, who delivered an enthusiastic and informative explanation behind each dish.

8-St. Ignatius, who brought the flavors of Japan to the event, then took second place. Their team, Skye Alegre, Bryce Santos, Mykel Villaroya, Dion Marzan, Joaquin Ornedo, AJ Dominguez, and Ynigo Robles prepared Takikomi Gohan and Mochi. Presenters Aaliyah Raval and Gio Muyco brought life to their booth with engaging stories, adding cultural context that highlighted the Japanese cuisine.

8-St. Augustine took third place, representing Italy with a four-course meal of Aglio e Olio, Blood Orange Soda, Insalata Caprese, and Macedonia de Frutta. Student chefs Martino Purificacion, Chris Umali, Migz Javier, Drake Mayores, River Jabonero, Zyrael Santos, and Dwayne Hernandez were recognized for their flavors and ex*****on. Presenters Johan Marra and Lucas Bolivar enhanced their booth with thoughtful commentary on Italy’s rich culinary heritage.

8-St. Anthony, representing Argentina, also impressed with a hearty menu of Beef Stew, Dulce de Leche, and Wine. Student chefs Uno Sicat, Mark Tan, Raleigh Parane, Nicolas Hubalde, Delfin Bautista, Rossbert Buna, and AJ Latupan showcased teamwork and enthusiasm. Presenters Daniel Fernandez and Ethan Denton guided the audience through each course, highlighting the deep culture behind the dishes.

8-St. Jerome, rounding out the showcase, represented Mali with a menu of Meni Meniyong, Ginger Juice, and La Capitaine Sangha. Chefs Amyrah Parreno, Mary Pallejera, Athena Duallo, Bernice Bardaje, Eisesen Cruz, Mallari Euala, and Caitlyn Aquino brought West African flavors to life as presenters Althea Olino and Abiel Paras delivered an informative and heartfelt explanation of Mali’s culinary traditions.

Judges Mrs Agnes Gadingan, Mrs. Desiree Catalan, Ms. Susan Afable, Mrs. Teresa Ibarra, and Ms. Via Dolorosa commended all sections for their effort, creativity, and authentic representation of world cultures. More than a competition, this was a celebration of diversity, teamwork, and the talents of the Marist Grade 8 students.

Marists Join in Prayer and Remembrance for Pope Francis

The Marist School community joins the global Catholic Church in offering prayers and heartfelt condolences following the recent passing of Pope Francis on Monday, April 21, 2025. Renowned for his humility, compassion, and unwavering commitment to peace, Pope Francis leaves behind a legacy that has inspired and touched millions around the world.

As the first pope from the Americas and a tireless advocate for the marginalized, his papacy was marked by messages of love, mercy, and dialogue. His teachings reminded the Church to return to the core of the Gospel with serving others, walking with the poor, and living out faith through meaningful action.

In this time of mourning, may we find solace in the values Pope Francis lived by—kindness, simplicity, and solidarity with and for all. Let us honor his memory by continuing to be instruments of peace, compassion, and hope within our communities.

"If we can develop a truly humble attitude, we can change the world." – Pope Francis

Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. Amen.

Palm Sunday: The Beginning of a Journey to the Cross

“They took palm branches and went out to meet him, shouting ‘Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord! Blessed is the King of Israel!’” — John 12:13

Palm Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week, the most sacred time in the Christian calendar. It commemorates Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem, where crowds welcomed Him with palm branches and praises of “Hosanna to the Son of David!”

As we held our palms this Sunday, April 13, may they be more than tradition but also be symbols of a heart that truly welcomes Christ, not just in joy but in every part of life

May this day remind us of Jesus’ willingness to embrace His mission, a journey leading us through the events of His Passion, Death, and ultimately, Resurrection. As we enter this sacred week, we are invited to reflect on the true meaning of Christ’s kingship—not one of worldly power but of humble love and sacrificial service.

| JHS—DIAMANTE 2025: A Showcase of Passion!

On the morning of March 23, the Br. Marius Doherty Gym at Marist School Marikina came alive with DIAMANTE, the Junior High School (JHS) performance showcase. Featuring a lineup of performances from the school year, the event celebrated a throwback to these triumphant moments of Maristas’ artistry and dedication.

The program began with a Doxology by Althea Olino and Luccio Navoa, followed by the Grade 7 students' energetic Sakuting performance under Sir Christopher Datu and student head Amber Caylee Streegan.

Grade 8 students, led by Sir Mark Arjay Dela Cruz and student head Caitleyn Ann Aquino, continued the cultural showcase with Sua Ku Sua, blending heritage and grace. Afterwards, the Grade 8 Sabayang Pagbigkas champion, St. Augustine, then presented their winning performance—an expressive display of folk choreography mixed with contemporary storytelling.

Selected Grade 9 students under Sir Arjay Santos and student head Xyrene Espino brought elegance to the stage with a Cha-Cha dance performance. This was followed by Grade 7 and 8 students’, under Mr. Ken Rañeses, Awiting Bayan with their rendition of Kataka-taka featuring singers Celena Concepcion, Logan Godoy, and Samantha Festin alongside instrumentalists Ashton Abastilla and Rachecl Ricci Fernandez.

Taking center stage once more, Grade 9 - St. Matthew, the Sonnet champion, delivered their winning interpretation of their sonnet. Closing the show, the Grade 10 band Malaya—featuring Jasminne Velecina, Joaquin Fortuno, Krizha Garganta, and Queenie Lojo, with guest Francis Silva of Kanlungan delivered a powerful finale.

More than just a showcase, DIAMANTE was a celebration of creativity and self-expression. Each performance highlighted the students’ and homerooms’ passion and dedication, proving that JHS Maristas consistently give their all in the arts.

Ulat nina: Mitchell Gabriel Ilagan, Eisen Klyde Bautista, at Bb. Lyka Varron
