The Philippine Normal University North Luzon (PNUNL), through its Gender Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Unit, continued its commitment in advancing gender equality and safety through the 2nd phase of Project GAD Cares, held on October 29, 2025.
Anchored on the theme βUNITEd for a VAW-free Philippines,β the activity gathered community members, barangay officials, and a legal expert in a unified effort to promote awareness on Violence Against Women (VAW) and strengthen legal literacy among participants.
Hosted by Mr. Patrik Joshua E. Balajadia, the event opened with a Statement of Purpose from Dr. Raquel R. Geronimo, Head of the GEDI Unit, who underscored the universityβs ongoing commitment to gender advocacy and the power of education in combating gender-based violence.
On behalf of Barangay Captain Rogelio C. Sanchez, Kagawad Saturnino Velasco conveyed his support for the initiative, underscoring the significance of implementing gender awareness programs within their barangay.
The programβs highlight was the Legal Awareness Lecture titled βKnow Your Rights,β delivered by Atty. Arvee M. Butac, who provided participants with essential knowledge on their legal rights and protection mechanisms. The lecture aimed to simplify legal processes and encourage individuals to seek justice without fear or hesitation.
An Open Forum followed, fostering an interactive dialogue between participants and the guest speaker. The exchange allowed attendees to clarify legal concerns, share experiences, and gain practical insights into applying the law in real-life situations.
