Clarification About Graduation Photos and Medal Use

Hello to our CAP College and CAP College for the Deaf community 👋

I’d like to respectfully clarify something important regarding the graduation photos and medals seen in past and recent posts.

🏅 About the Medal

In some of our graduation photo shoots, you may notice a large gold medal. That medal is not a CAP-issued graduation medal — it is my personal award that I received in 1992 when I graduated, for Best Performing Arts.

As a photographer, I included this medal in a few client shoots as part of our premium photo package:

To add a professional and elegant touch

As a unique visual symbol for clients who invested in full service

🟥 The official red medal is the real graduation medal from CAP College. It's perfectly fine for students to use this in their personal photos.

❗However, I have noticed that some people have cropped or reused my medal photo (from old shoots) without asking — and placed it on their own photos.

This is not respectful to my original work or the clients who paid for that service.

Art of Silence Photography officially served CAP College and CAP College for the Deaf students from 2013 to 2020.

We offered:

Studio and on-campus graduation photo shoots
Printed wallet-size photos
Framed portraits
Use of props (including my 1992 medal) for premium packages only

In 2002, I had the privilege of documenting the wedding of my very FIRST DEAF CLIENT as part of the photo and video team. This was more than just a job — it was a defining experience that shaped my commitment to inclusive and respectful storytelling.

Being trusted to capture such an intimate and meaningful day left a lasting impact on my approach to visual storytelling. It reminded me of the power of communication beyond words, and the importance of representation in every frame.
