The ARAL Program, which stands for Academic Recovery and Accessible Learning Program, is set to begin this School Year 2025-2026, in response to the learning gaps and losses of students from Grade 1-10, particularly in reading, mathematics, and science, as initiated by the Department of Education (DepEd) in Eastern Visayas.

Gretel Laura Cadiong, ARAL program focal person, said this program will assess the learners’ academic performance individually at the beginning of the school year, and provide free tutorial sessions for those struggling to catch up on their lessons during and after the school year, in order to be promoted to the next grade level.

The DepEd has identified approximately 10,957 learners under the Tacloban City Division who are potentially seen to have the need to participate in the said program, generating 23.77 percent of its population.

This program was also able to garner a total number of 541 tutors to take charge in educating its learners. The training for tutors will be on August 26-29 at the DepEd Regional Office 8. (JKPA)

The Eastern Visayas Medical Center (EVMC) is facing a sharp increase in patient volume and the unrelenting influx is stretching staff and resources thin, causing waiting times in the Emergency Room to increase and inpatient admissions are beginning to back up as well.

This prompted EVMC’s call for primary care facilities and local health partners to manage simple cases and address non-life-threatening conditions at their level to ensure the safety and quality care of all patients.
