OCTOBER 7, 2025 IS NATIONAL DAY OF PRAYER AND PUBLIC REPENTANCE

Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) president and Bishop of Kalookan Cardinal Pablo Virgilio David over the weekend called for a national day of prayer and public repentance on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, the Feast of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary.

In a post on Facebook, David called for the prayer of national confession and contrition starting Tuesday and every succeeding Sunday leading to the Feast of Christ the King, as a sustained supplication for mercy and renewal and in context of the recent calamities that hit the country.

I’m becoming softer,
but stronger.

Kindness doesn’t mean weakness. I can be gentle and still stand firm for myself, that’s real strength.

It’s okay to rest.

Resting isn’t quitting.
It’s recharging your soul so you can rise again with clarity and purpose.

A BLESSED MEMORIAL OF THE OUR LADY OF THE HOLY ROSARY

The "Memorial of the Most Holy Rosary," or the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary, is celebrated on October 7 in the Roman Catholic Church and commemorates the anniversary of the Battle of Lepanto in 1571, a pivotal victory for the Holy League against the Ottoman navy, attributed to the power of the rosary. Formerly known as the Feast of Our Lady of Victory, the celebration honors the Blessed Virgin Mary's intercession in this decisive naval engagement.

TOMORROW IS THE FEAST OF
THE OUR LADY OF ROSARY

On October 7, the Church celebrates the yearly feast of Our Lady of the Rosary. Known for several centuries by the alternate title of “Our Lady of Victory,” the feast day takes place in honor of a 16th century naval victory which secured Europe against Turkish invasion. Pope St. Pius V attributed the victory to the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, who was invoked on the day of the battle through a campaign to pray the Rosary throughout Europe.

The feast always occurs one week after the similar Byzantine celebration of the Protection of the Mother of God, which most Eastern Orthodox Christians and Eastern Catholics celebrate on October 1 in memory of a 10th-century military victory which protected Constantinople against invasion after a reported Marian apparition.

PRAYER TO SAINT FRANCIS OF ASSISI

St. Francis of Assisi was a son of a wealthy merchant who embraced radical poverty. Called by Christ to rebuild His Church, he founded the Order of Friars Minor (Franciscans). He is beloved for his simplicity, his love for all creatures, his humility, and his deep prayer life. He is Patron of animals, ecology, and many movements in the Church.

Prayer of Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.
Where there is hatred let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
Where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek
To be consoled as to console;
To be understood as to understand;
To be loved as to love.
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.
Amen.

St. Francis of Assisi, pray for us!
