𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐡𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐚𝐜 𝐂𝐢𝐭𝐲’𝐬 𝐀𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐚 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐀𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐧𝐨 𝐁𝐫𝐢𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐬

ON August 28 and 29, 2026, two of the most iconic bridges in Tarlac City collapsed due to the raging current brought about by the Southwest Monsoon rains, most popularly known as Habagat.

The two bridges, connect the Poblacion area of the City to its western barangays, to the five municipalities of the province namely San Clemente, Camiling, Sta. Ignacia, Mayantoc and San Jose and to the province of Pangasinan.

It practically cut-off the western barangays and municipalities from Tarlac City proper as alternate routes will take hours to traverse from the usual few minutes.

But when was these two iconic bridges constructed?
First, the Agana Bridge---it was named after former Tarlac Governor Marcelino Agana who served from 1928 to 1931.
Agana is most remembered for the construction of the Calero Bridge in the then capital municipality of Tarlac, Tarlac. The bridge, constructed in the mid-1940’s, connects the barrios Carangian and Tibag thereby connects all the barrios and western towns of Tarlac.

A Prayer for Calm and Strength

Heavenly Father,

Please calm the weather and protect everyone in harm’s way. Keep our families and communities safe from the heavy rains, floods, and strong winds.

We especially pray for the people of Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, and all other areas affected by the continuous heavy rains and flooding. Keep them safe, give strength to those who are struggling, and comfort those who are afraid or have lost so much.

Bless and protect the rescuers, volunteers, and everyone helping those in need.

May the rains ease, the skies clear, and the floodwaters quickly subside. Give every affected family strength, hope, and peace during this difficult time.

Keep us all under Your loving protection.

Guide and protect the rescue teams, local authorities, and volunteers working tirelessly on the front lines. Stir the hearts of our communities to extend help, resources, and compassion so that those in need receive immediate relief and hope.
Grant calm to the waters, clear the skies, and lead every affected community toward swift recovery and renewal.

Ambuklao Dam Opens 8 Gates: Downstream Areas Warned of Rising Waters
Residents along downstream waterways in Bokod, Benguet—particularly near Barangay Ambuklao—are advised to stay alert following a major water release from Ambuklao Dam early Sunday morning, August 9.
According to the Philippine Information Agency–Cordillera Administrative Region (PIA-CAR), eight spillway gates were opened to a total height of 11 meters as of 5:30 a.m.
Because the impact of the release can persist well after the gates are raised, authorities urge those near rivers, creeks, and low-lying areas to continuously monitor water levels and follow local evacuation or safety instructions.
For real-time and accurate updates on dam operations, the public should rely strictly on official government channels.
