JUST IN: The Davao City Council did not push through with the "Persona Non Grata" resolution proposed by Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang against comedian Vice Ganda over his joke on former President Rodrigo Duterte during her recent concert with Regine Velasquez. Instead, the council passed a resolution "condemning" Vice Ganda's joke, saying this carries the same weight of criticizing her joke over the former president.

Vice Ganda made a comic spiel promoting a free trip to the West Philippine Sea and a trip to The Hague, spoofing issues related to the former President who is now detained by the ICC facing charges of crimes against humanity. Her joke divided the nation between Duterte supporters and the rest of the public.

LOOK | A House Resolution is filed at the House of Representatives in Quezon City regarding the relocation of 11th Regional Community Defense Group (RCDG), which is currently inside the campus grounds of UP Mindanao.

The resolution for 11th RCDG Relcation, or House Resolution 129, is filed by Kabataan Partylist Rep. Renee Co, ACT Teachers Partylist Rep. Antonio Tinio, alongside UP Mindanao University Student Council, Kasama sa UP, and the UP Office of Student Regent—represented by both 41st Student Regent Francheska Duran and newly selected 42nd Student Regent Dexter Clemente.

During the 59th General Assembly of Student Councils (GASC) a resolution was adopted regarding the urgent relocation of 11th RCDG last August 8, which is authored by UP Mindanao All Student Councils Assembly.

The presence of the 11th RCDG inside the campus grounds has resulted to multiple incidence of harassments, red-tagging, and security threats among the constituents of the university. Documented incidents include military personnel carrying fi****ms practicing formations at the CHSS Cultural Complex last October 2024, and multiple instances of military personnel within the vicinity of the campus.

LOOK: Acting Davao City Vice Mayor Rigo Duterte II dismissed the “persona non grata” resolution by the Davao City Council against comedian Vice Ganda, calling it a baseless and attention-seeking stunt by those who spread the rumor.

Duterte said the City Council has more urgent concerns to attend to —such as improving infrastructure, ensuring public safety, creating livelihood opportunities, and strengthening social services—than addressing “cheap insults and distasteful jokes made for clout.”

The neophyte vice mayor added that the dignity of Dabawenyos is “not for sale and certainly not for comedy fodder", as he urged public figures to show hard work, discipline, and respect instead of ridicule.

LOOK: Fruit staples of Davao, such as durian, rambutan, lansones, and mangosteen, were missing from today’s Pag-Abli sa Kadayawan decorations, a contrast to previous opening programs.

Instead, this year's display featured mangoes, bananas, watermelons, and Jicama.

Although Kadayawan is known as a celebration of culture and abundance, two of its iconic symbols, the durian and the waling-waling flower, were barely visible during the opening ceremony.
