AUGUST 2026: CDU’S FRESH START

Just like that, August slipped away into a moment in time. A month back on campus, and somehow, there’s already so much to look back on.

Maybe you finally tried that food place you’d been eyeing every time you passed by. Maybe you found a new spot to stay in between classes, one that might just become your go-to. Maybe you started recognizing more faces in the hallway or found yourself having conversations with people you didn’t know when the month began. Or maybe you’re still figuring out where to go when you have an hour to spare.

Somewhere between rushing to class, waiting for the next one, grabbing food, catching up with friends, and getting through another long day, the campus started feeling like home once more.

New courses, new clinical instructors, and new lessons meant for learning and growth. August was a chance to start over and see what we can make of the year ahead.

We may not know exactly where this year will take us yet, but that’s the exciting part. There is still so much to learn, so many people to meet, and so many memories waiting to happen. After all, it is only August, and we are just getting started.

There are moments when a university feels less like an institution and more like a community.

Yesterday was one of those moments.

On August 22, CDU came together at Mantuyong for the launch of Project PAGPAKABANA, a five-year program centered on sustained care and service for the community.

One might expect a program of this scale to begin with something grand. Instead, it began simply with people showing up, doing the work, and caring for those who needed it.

Perhaps that is what makes a beginning worth remembering. PAGPAKABANA has five years ahead, and this was only the first step.

The Young Man in a Hurry

At just 17, Benigno Simeon “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. began his career as a journalist, later becoming the youngest war correspondent to cover the Korean War in 1950. He later entered politics, becoming the youngest mayor at 22, vice governor at 27, and senator at 34–ultimately earning him the nickname ‘The Young Man in a Hurry’.

Following his assassination in 1983, Ninoy’s death became a significant moment in Philippine history. His advocacy for democracy and social justice, along with his imprisonment and exile, became part of his place in the country’s history.

Every street carries a memory, every tradition preserves a legacy, and every Cebuano keeps Cebu's story alive. As we commemorate the 457th Founding Anniversary of the Province of Cebu, we honor the rich history, lively culture, and resilient people who have built Cebu into what it is today.

On this meaningful occasion, we celebrate more than the province's founding, we celebrate the enduring legacy that continues to inspire generations. More than a place, Cebu is a living heritage, nurtured by its past and strengthened by the people who carry its traditions forward. Cebu Doctors’ University Welcomes Freshmen at Fresh Start Fest 2026

On August 3, 2026, Cebu Doctors’ University officially welcomed its incoming students through Fresh Start Fest 2026, the University’s annual orientation program held at the CDU Auditorium to introduce freshmen to campus life, academic leadership, student services, and opportunities for involvement before the opening of regular classes.

The daylong event gathered incoming students, university administrators, faculty members, the CDU Supreme Student Council (CDU-SSC), SSC committees, student scholar volunteers, and The Stethoscope photojournalists. The University President and Chairman of the Board Dr. Philip Anthony S. D. Larrazabal opened the program with his welcome remarks, followed by presentations introducing the University’s academic office, administrative offices, Business Office staff, College deans, and Senior High School principal. The orientation featured video presentations on the University and campus life. The program also featured the oath-taking ceremony of the newly elected CDU-SSC officers.

In the afternoon, freshmen attended a student services orientation that introduced them to the University’s offices and available support services. Freshmen explored the organization bazaar at the North and South Atriums, where student organizations and partner groups showcased their programs and opportunities for campus involvement. Participating organizations included the Red Cross Youth, The Stethoscope, and Operation Smile Philippines, among others, while concessionaires also set up booths during the event. Upon entry, incoming students presented their Certificates of Registration (COR), while the CDU-SSC distributed snacks, including malunggay pandesal, at the campus shed. The council also led a dance as part of the freshmen’s first-day activities.

Held annually, Fresh Start Fest introduces incoming students to Cebu Doctors’ University’s academic environment, student support services, and campus organizations ahead of the start of regular classes.

July 29, 2026 was more than a turnover of titles—it was about passing a responsibility, purpose, and commitment. A bittersweet farewell to the outgoing editors and members who bled ink and shots for every story, and a warm welcome to the new team ready to carry the weight of the student voice.

As we honored the legacy of the student journalists who came before us, we also set our course for the year ahead—committing to stronger coverage, deeper features, and meaningful storytelling that reflects the voice and experiences of the CDU Community.

The heartbeat of journalism, graphics, photography, and videography is alive, and with this team, it’s only getting louder. Watch us write and capture another year ahead—one headline, one event, one memory at a time.
