ONE POLITICAL PRISONER IS ONE TOO MANY: Martial law survivor and SELDA spokesperson Boni Ilagan says that political prisoners should be the first ones to be released under humanitarian reasons.

"The political prisoners are the ones who stood in the line of fire in the struggle for freedom, corruption, and national democracy. Pero sila ay sinampahan ng trumped-up charges," Ilagan said. (via Dominic Gutoman/Bulatlat)

CORRUPTION IS A HUMAN RIGHTS ISSUE: Demands for justice and accountability will continue to echo the streets leading to the International Human Rights Day this December 10, human rights groups say in an ongoing press conference today in Quezon City.

"Hindi tayo titigil hangga't hindi napapanagot ang mga sangkot sa korapsyon," says Cristina Palabay, secretary-general of Karapatan.

"Wala pong abswelto dito, lahat ng sangkot dapat managot," SELDA spokesperson Boni Ilagan added. "It is not a question of choosing the lesser evil, it is the demand to do away with the devil. Ang pamilya Marcos ay may malaking pananagutan sa usapin ng korapsyon." (via Dominic Gutoman/Bulatlat)

Cebu Archbishop Alberto Uy led the Sugboanong Pakigbisog Kontra Korupsyon (SuPaKK) prayer rally at Fuente Osmeña Circle on Sunday, November 30, urging corrupt officials to return stolen funds that could have transformed the lives of Filipinos.

“Trillions of pesos could have rewritten our story, bringing hope to millions, easing countless burdens, and changing the destiny of our country,” he said.

Uy warned that corruption “is more dangerous than storms or earthquakes” and steals not just money but “the future of many Filipinos,” calling on officials to repent and take responsibility for their actions.

David Michael San Juan, a De La Salle University professor and convener of the Taumbayan Ayaw sa Magnanakaw at Abusado Network Alliance (TAMA NA), lamented that not one government official involved in corruption has been held accountable. He said it has been five months since the flood-control scam was exposed, and more than 30 legislators have been identified by the Office of the Ombudsman as being involved in the anomalies, yet not one of them has even been brought to trial.

News in Pictures | Filipinos in the UK demand Duterte-Marcos resignation

Braving the rain and cold weather, Filipino progressives in the United Kingdom (UK) took to the streets to demand the immediate resignation of Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Vice President Sara Duterte stressing that Marcos Jr. is the signatory of the budgets where insertions occur, while Sara Duterte has been misusing the Department of Education’s (DepEd) funds.

Speakers from BAYAN UK and Migrante UK condemned the broken political system, the misuse of public funds, and the government’s dependence on forced migration and remittances to access foreign loans that fuels corruption.

“Dahil sa bilyon bilyong pinapadala ng mga migrante, nakakautang ang gobyerno ng Pilipinas sa mgadayuhang bangko na ginagamit sa mga flood control projects. Nakikinabang sila sa paghihirap natin,” said Allan Mendoza of Migrante UK.

(Because of the billions worth of remittances of migrant workers, the Philippine Government can accessforeign loans that are used for their flood control projects. They benefit from our suffering).

The London protest ended with a symbolic act of destroying portraits of Marcos Jr. and Duterte to show the anger of the Filipino people. A similar protest was held in Manchester on November 28, organized by Anakbayan Manchester with South Asian and migrant solidarity groups.

These actions formed part of the global participation in the November 30 nationwide mobilization in the Philippines, showing the united strength of Filipinos who continue to stand against corruption, negligence, and abuse of power, even from thousands of miles away.

NEWS IN PICTURES | Anti-corruption calls draw thousands to Luneta on Bonifacio Day

Progressive groups and anti-corruption advocates gather for the Baha sa Luneta 2.0 anti-corruption protest on November 30, 2025. Protesters marched from various meeting points around Luneta Park despite several attempts by the police to stop the anti-corruption protest.

Early Sunday morning, former Kabataan Partylist Representative and now Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (Bayan) Secretary-General Mong Palatino said that the police deployed in Luneta prevented Bayan from setting up the stage, sound system, and LED screen, citing the ‘no permit, no rally’ policy. According to Palatino, in a media interview, the Manila City government had raised no objections to the protest and assured the group that it would receive assistance similar to what was provided during the Iglesia ni Cristo rally that similar assistance will be given just like the Iglesia ni Cristo rally . Bayan also coordinated the Baha sa Luneta 2.0 with the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

After the program at Luneta Park, the people marched to Mendiola to continue the protest but was blocked by the police. An organized dispersal followed after the crowd sang ‘Bayan ko”.
