Asian Social Institute Launches Center for Heritage Conservation (CHC)
The Asian Social Institute (ASI) officially opened its doors to the Center for Heritage Conservation (CHC) on August 27, 2025, through a soft launching held at the ASI campus in Manila. The event gathered educators, cultural workers, local leaders, and community partners who share a deep commitment to protecting our heritage and honoring Filipino identity.
The CHC was created in response to the growing need to care for our cultural and natural heritage—especially as many sites, stories, and traditions face threats from urban growth, climate change, and lack of support. While national efforts continue, ASI believes that real change begins at the local level—with schools, LGUs, cultural conveyors and communities working hand in hand.
The Center aims to help by offering training, research, and technical support in cultural mapping, documentation, and heritage planning. It also hopes to build strong partnerships with the private sector, recognizing the important role of businesses, developers, and institutions in preserving heritage and promoting sustainable tourism.
Leading the Center are:
• Dr. Felipe M. de Leon, Jr. – Executive Director
• Mr. Delan Lopez Robillos – Director, Education and Training
• Dr. Joseph Richard C. Renta III – Director, Programs and Research
• Prof. Rosanni Recreo-Sarile – Director, Community Engagement and Communications
• Prof. Dennis Y. Batoy – Director, Administration and Resource Management
Together, they bring years of experience in education, cultural work, and community service.
The CHC’s goals include:
• Helping communities care for their heritage through research and training
• Supporting LGUs and schools in cultural mapping and documentation
• Promoting Filipino traditions and indigenous knowledge
• Creating learning spaces for students, teachers, and heritage workers
• Encouraging policies that protect heritage in tourism, education, and governance
• Using culture to build stronger, more united communities
The soft launch featured unveiling of the logo, messages of support, a blessing ceremony, and a preview of upcoming programs. Guests were invited to share ideas, build connections, and take part in future projects.
The Center welcomes educators, cultural workers, LGUs, and private partners to join in this shared mission. Together, we can protect what makes us Filipino—and pass it on to future generations.
