The College of Business and Management (Unit 3) and College of Teacher Education-Laboratory High School (Unit 1) faced off during the finals in the badminton tilt.

Dramatic moments and deafening cheers have left the court when Unit 3 (College of Business and Management) bags gold and silver in the championship match, reclaiming both men and women against Unit 1 (CTE-LHS) on October 29 at the Recreational and Fitness Center.

Yuhvann Ybera of Unit 3 first soared back with the consistent 2-0 match in badminton (singles category) against opponent Kier Talde (Unit 1), setting the tone with identical scores of 21-14 and 21-14.

"Nasadyahan gd ky nami ang match namun, and thanks kay Lord kay wara naku ginpabay an sa play nakun and also to my other teammate and sara pa nabawi namun ang gold," Ybera said.

He also shared that last year, they were hailed as 2nd place in the badminton tilt. But as we believe that change is the only constant in life, it was a roller coaster experience that this time they were declared the champion in the men's singles category.

"Sa una nakulbaan gamay kay championship dun pero nagatiwala lng kay God and focus lang gd sa game," he added.

Meanwhile, Kier Talde of Unit 1 took home the silver medal, where he still shone from the intense rallies.

Furthermore, the doubles tandem, John Paul Davao and AJ Tolentino from Unit 3, proved unstoppable. With strong coordination and relentless smashes, the duo claimed both sets, the standing 21โ€“11, 21โ€“7, sealing another win for Unit 3 against the duo Kent Wisly Occena and Jomil Dimalaluan of Unit 1.

"For me the match is become a normal game its because of so many games and experience I've been encountered in higher level of my career," Tolentino explained.

Tolentino was the team captain of Unit 3 badminton doubles category. His appreciation and gratitude to his teammate served as the reminder why they won the match.

"As a team captain, im very happy kay na champion kmi kag proud ako sa mga imaw ko ky gin ubra da anda nga best para sa team para ma buol nmon ang victory."

Additionally, he shared about being a student athlete, he balance his time for his studies and time for practice every afternoon. He also reminding himself to stay focus and stay mentally prepare to win the game.

On the other hand, Kent Wisly Occena recounted his experience as they clinched silver in men's doubles.

"The lessons that I learned from the yesterday's match is I need to keep training myself, improve my focus and teamwork in every game." Occena said.

Although they failed to clutch the gold medal, they still believe that they're doing their best to represent the CTE-LHS.

"I am most proud of my determination and not giving up during match. Also, the ones who motivated me the most to perform my best today are my classmates and friends who kept cheering and supporting me," he added.

In the womenโ€™s singles category, Unit 3 player, Mei Ann Cieรฑo Millan displayed her dominance from start to finish, where she smashed Kenjie Francisco of Unit 1 in straight sets, 21โ€“9 and 21โ€“4. Millanโ€™s performance highlighted her consistency and control, further cementing CBMโ€™s strong standing in the tournament.

"Sadya kay finally nabuol man namon ang back to back," Millan explained in the interview.

Millan was a 2nd-year BSHM student who exerts her time in the badminton match.

"Challenged at the same time pressured syempre kay ang amon nga na kontra is mga teammates man namon halin sa labhigh which is mga nami gid mag sipal amo nag preparar man kami nag training kag composure lang gid pirme sa sipal. I've handled it by focusing and enjoy lang gid sa sipal," she added.

Kenjie Francisco also shared about her learning from mistakes, identifying her errors and mistakes made during the game and using them as opportunities for growth.

"I'm pushing and convince myself I can do it, even if I know I might lose. At least I'll know I gave it everything I've got because I have perseverance and determination," she added.

However, the plot twist only began in the womenโ€™s doubles. Cyrille May S. Cruz and Stacey Gwyneth Arcolas of Unit 1 (CTE-LHS) tightly contested sets with 21โ€“18 and 21โ€“15, halting CBMโ€™s winning streak.

The match was a thrilling display of teamwork and resilience, with CTEโ€™s players showing excellent court coverage and communication to secure the win.

Cruz shared her feelings about winning the game.

"Sadya gid tana, kay maski g8 palng kami nakaya namon mag kuntra sa higher level kanamun, worth it amun training kag kapoy."

The rivalry between Unit 1 and Unit 3 brought out the best in both teams, with CBM dominating the men's categories and CTE taking pride in their doubles victory. Each match reflected not only athletic excellence but also the camaraderie and sportsmanship that define intercollegiate competition.
