Flashback Tuesday:
Remembering the goodness of God in all the seasons of our life
-Bro. Kim Asuncion
Think of memories/events in your life that you can say 'It's still far, but it's already far'.
•Hindi na madaming sabaw ang noodles
•Nakakapag Jollibee na kahit walang okasyon
•3 beses at higit pa nakakakain sa isang araw
•Nabibili ko na iyong mga gusto ko ng walang iniisip
•and many more...
In the flashbacks that we remember, what should we learn and remember?
God is good to His people all the time
•No matter what we do, no matter how hard we work or anything else, we will not achieve the good things in our lives if God has not been good to us.
Sometimes we also wonder why we didn't grow up with wealthy parents, why we experienced hardships or unpleasant things.
Job Story in Bible:
•The story of Job in the Bible revolves around a wealthy and righteous man named Job, who lives in the land of Uz. He is known for his piety and faithfulness to God. The narrative begins with a challenge from Satan, who argues that Job is only faithful because of his prosperity. God allows Satan to test Job by taking away his wealth, health, and family, yet Job remains steadfast in his faith.
In the end, after enduring immense suffering and questioning, Job's faith is rewarded. He repents for questioning God and is restored to a state of greater prosperity than before, receiving double what he had lost. The story explores themes of suffering, faith, and divine justice, emphasizing that faith can endure even in the face of profound adversity.
Joseph Story in Bible
•Joseph was betrayed by his brothers, sold into slavery, and wrongfully imprisoned. Despite these hardships, he remained faithful to God. In time, God elevated him to a position of power in Egypt, where he was able to save countless lives—including his own family—during a severe famine. This story highlights God's goodness in turning even the most difficult circumstances into blessings.
Here are some relevant verses that illustrate God's goodness:
Psalm 34:8
"Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in Him."
•This verse comes from a time in David’s life when he was on the run and found himself taking refuge in God’s presence.
Psalm 100:5:
"For the Lord is good; His love endures forever, and His faithfulness continues through all generations."
•This verse comes from a time in David’s life when he was on the run and found himself taking refuge in God’s presence.
Psalm 145:9:
"The Lord is good to all, and His compassion is over all that He has made."
•This verse emphasizes God's universal goodness and compassion. It reassures us that His kindness extends to everyone and that His mercy covers all creation. This verse highlights His loving nature, showing that He cares for every living being and acts with grace toward all. It encourages trust in His benevolence and gratitude for His unchanging love.
Romans 8:28:
"And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose."
•This verse is a powerful reminder that God orchestrates everything for the good of those who love Him and follow His calling. It reassures believers that even in hardships, God is working behind the scenes to bring about a greater purpose. This verse encourages trust in His divine plan and strengthens faith, knowing that every circumstance has meaning within His will.
James 1:17:
"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows."
• This verse highlights God's unchanging nature and His role as the ultimate giver of all good things. It reassures believers that every blessing and perfect gift originates from Him, emphasizing His consistency and reliability. Unlike the shifting uncertainties of the world, God remains steady, always providing with love and grace. This verse encourages gratitude and trust in His unwavering goodness.
Luke 11:13:
"If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him?"
• This verse teaches about God's generosity and willingness to bless His people. Jesus uses the example of human parents giving good gifts to their children, despite their flaws, to illustrate how much more our perfect Heavenly Father desires to give His children the greatest gift-the Holy Spirit. This verse encourages believers to seek God with confidence, knowing He lovingly provides what is truly best.
Conclusion:
Reflecting on life's journey, whether through hardships or blessings, leads us to one undeniable truth-God is good all the time. The stories of Job and Joseph remind us that even in moments of suffering, God's purpose prevails. Though life may not always be easy or how we imagined, every challenge and triumph is woven into His greater plan.
From scripture, we see that God's love endures forever, His faithfulness never wavers, and His provision is always present. He is a God who gives good and perfect gifts, who works all things for the good of those who love Him, and whose compassion extends to all creation.
Looking back on our own experiences, we may see struggles-times when we wondered why life was difficult. Yet, as we move forward, we realize that each step, whether small or great, is evidence of His goodness carrying us through.
So, whether we celebrate simple joys-like eating better meals or reaching milestones-or face difficulties that test our faith, we can always trust that God is working behind the scenes. Every season teaches us to hold onto Him, knowing that His plans are far greater than what we can see.
