Monkey Bay at Lake Malawi in Malawi
The indented coastline, verdant islets and blue water at Monkey Bay, a town on the shores of Lake Malawi and one of its primary ports. This lake has impressive stats: one of the African Great Lakes and one of the world's largest lakes in terms of area, Lake Malawi covers portions of Tanzania, Mozambique and Malawi. It's said that more species of fish live in these waters than in any other lake in the world. The most studied fish here are the cichlids – roughly 700 species of them are found in the lake.Beyond Lake Malawi's depths, a great number and variety of other animals depend on its life-sustaining coastal ecosystem. Leopards, hippos and monkeys are found in the area, while African sea eagles and Nile crocodiles find their supper in the lake's abundant fish stocks.
