Being a Mom to an Autistic Child: My Journey with Thalia

Raising a child with autism comes with its own set of challenges. But it is also filled with so much love and learning. As a mother, I will do everything I can to give Thalia the best life possible. Therapy, education, and even her special diet can be expensive but I will never be ashamed of sharing our journey because every step we take is for her future.

I created this page not just to document Thalia’s growth but also to spread awareness and connect with others who may be going through the same experience. If sharing our story can inspire even one parent or help someone understand autism better then it’s all worth it.

Thank you for being here. For supporting us and for joining us on this journey. Every like, share, and comment means a lot. Let’s continue to learn, grow, and advocate for the beautiful world of neurodiversity together.

Being a Mama is not easy. You still have to be a Mama when you're stressed, depressed, burnt out, crying and struggling. Mothers are superheroes. You won't change my mind on that.

To all my fellow parents raising a child with autism this poem is for you. It reflects the fears we carry and the deep love that keeps us going. We may worry about the world understanding our children, but one thing is certain—our love will always light their way. You are not alone on this journey.

A Mother’s Heart, A Mother’s Fear

I lay awake in the quiet night,
Wondering if you’ll be all right.
The world is loud, too fast, too bright,
Will it see your heart, your light?

Will they hear you when you don’t speak?
Will they be patient, kind, and meek?
Will they see the love within your eyes,
Or only judge, misunderstand, despise?

I fear the days when I’m not there,
To hold your hand, to show I care.
To shield your heart, to calm your mind,
To keep you safe, to help you find—

A world that knows how much you shine,
That every piece of you is divine.
That autism is not less, but more,
A different way to touch the shore.

And though my fears may never fade,
My love for you will never fray.
With every step, through joy and pain,
I’ll walk beside you in sun and rain.

For you, my child, are brave and strong,
In a world where you belong.
And as you grow, I’ll always be near,
With boundless love beyond my fear.

Brushing teeth can be challenging for autistic children, but early and patient training makes a difference. Use visuals, routines, and sensory-friendly tools to help them feel comfortable. Small steps lead to big progress.

Pasting can be a great activity for children with autism as it helps develop fine motor skills, provides sensory input, and can be easily adapted to different levels of ability, making it a valuable tool for improving focus and engagement in creative activities.

Motherhood means family, happiness, love and contentment. Motherhood is lucky and a gift that not all of us get. It brings out the best and the worst in you. Some days are hard and some days are easy but ultimately the joy of raising small humans is so powerful. ~Happy Mother's Day~
