I would like to clarify that I have never asked for special treatment for my son because of his condition. The reason I informed the school about certain activities he cannot do like holding his urine, doing physical exercises and others is because we are deeply concerned that these might cause his PD (Peritoneal Dialysis) Catheter to move again. If that happens, he would need to undergo operation that is the only option.
To give you context, he has already undergone 11 operations. He has been in and out of the Operating Room since last year. The thought that he is just a child.
I am not asking for Academic Leniency. If not participating in some physical activities will affect his grades, then so be it. What I am asking for is consideration when it comes to his physical limitations , not academic exemptions.
As for him being late by a few minutes to class, this is due to his Peritoneal Dialysis that lies between 6-7am. Before that, I need to clean and dress his Catheter site properly, whict takes time. I wake him up at 05:30 AM (you might ask "why not earlier?") It's Zseijan wakes up at around 12 midnight to complete his 4 dialysis exchanges daily. "Why not earlier than that?" Because he usually falls asleep early and I have to wake him up around 11PM-12AM for the last cycle. After the dialysis, he often finds it difficult to go back to sleep right away.
Despite of everything, my son is really trying his best to catch up on everything he misses. I can see how eager he is to attend school. Sometimes, he even gets frustrated because the dressing process takes time and he wants to go to school right away. But the cleaning has to be done carefully and step by step to avoid infection.
Even during dialysis, He always asks me "mama magrarapid ka?" He knows when I need to do rapid exchanges lalo na kung kulang yung na drained na fluid sa kanya.
My son has developed fear sa 1st subj. teacher niya because the teacher would get angry at them when they're late. And sometimes saying unpleasant words right through them and nastuck siya sa utak ng anak ko. That's why I personally came to talk to her and his adviser earlier.
Hopefully by now the situation is better understood..
