Today’s Highlight: Milk Fever in Cows (Hypocalcemia)
Milk fever is a common metabolic disorder in dairy cows, especially around calving. It occurs due to low calcium levels in the blood.
Signs to Watch For:
Weakness or inability to stand
Cold ears and dry muzzle
Muscle tremors
Decreased appetite
Treatment:
Slow IV injection of calcium borogluconate
Keep the cow warm and in a comfortable position
Veterinary supervision is a must!
Prevention Tips:
Balanced diet during dry period
Avoid high-calcium feeds before calving
Monitor calcium levels in high-risk cows
