Eid al-Ghadir is a festival observed by Shia Muslims, including Ismailis, commemorating the event of Ghadir Khumm in 632. It was there that the Shia believe Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his progeny) designated his cousin and son-in-law, Hazrat Ali (peace be upon him) as his successor and the first hereditary Imam from the Prophet's family.
