Historic Visit: His Highness the Aga Khan Travels to Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral
Despite challenging weather conditions, His Highness the Aga Khan arrived safely in northern Pakistan to begin a highly anticipated series of visits spanning May 21 to May 26, 2026. 🏔️
Upon arrival in Gilgit, he was received at the airport by Chief Minister Justice (Retd) Yar Muhammad, FCNA Commander Major General Syed Imtiaz Hussain, and other senior officials. He then travelled to Passu in Hunza, where tens of thousands gathered for an emotional outdoor congregation, marking the beginning of a historic itinerary extending directly to communities across Gilgit-Baltistan and Chitral.
📍 Designated Didargah Congregations in Chitral
To accommodate the vast gatherings safely, the local administration and volunteer teams set up two primary gathering locations (Didargahs):
• Parwak Lasht (Upper Chitral): Serving as the centralized congregation point for community members across the Upper Chitral district.
• Garam Chashma (Lower Chitral): Arranged to host the major gatherings for followers based across Lower Chitral.
📚 Impact and Celebration Campaign
The Ismaili community has a centuries-old history in these valleys. For decades, the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) has driven massive socioeconomic growth across both Chitral and Gilgit-Baltistan, transforming lives through extensive networks of schools, health centers, and infrastructure.
To honor this landmark regional visit, community members have been participating in a massive "Read, Move, Plant" campaign, collectively pledging:
📖 200 million minutes of reading
🏃♂️ 75 million minutes of movement
🌱 130,000+ trees planted
A momentous week for northern Pakistan as residents celebrate these historic events.
