Nashra Sundhu’s maiden six-fer helps Pakistan qualify for ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup semi-final
Left-arm spinner Nashra Sundhu’s maiden six-wicket haul in T20Is helped Pakistan beat Hong Kong by 72 runs in their Group ‘A’ match of the ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium (DICS) on Monday evening. The win also confirmed Pakistan’s place in the semi-final of the eight-team tournament.
Pakistan will take on Sri Lanka in the second semi-final, scheduled on Friday, 11 September.
Defending 144, 28-year-old Nashra never allowed the Hong Kong batters to get going as wickets fell at regular intervals. Nashra finished with figures of 4-0-7-6, which were also the best bowling figures by a Pakistan women’s cricketer in T20Is, surpassing Omaima Sohail’s five for 13 in four overs against Sri Lanka in Sylhet, Bangladesh in 2022.
Hong Kong were eventually bowled out for 71 in the 19th over.
Earlier, after opting to bat first, Pakistan scored 143 for eight in their allotted 20 overs. Right-handed batter Shawaal Zulfiqar top-scored with a 35-ball 47, hitting seven fours. Ayesha Zafar (26, 19b, 4x4s) and captain Fatima Sana (24 not out, 24b, 2x6s) were the other notable run-getters with the bat.
For Hong Kong, Joyleen Kaur was the most successful bowler, taking four wickets for 19 runs.
Pakistan finished second in Group ‘A’, earning four points from two wins in three matches.

Stars beat Challengers by four runs to clinch National Women’s U19 title
Stars clinched a thrilling four-run win over Challengers in the final of the Rivaj Presents University of Lahore National Women’s U19 Tournament here at the Naya Nazimabad Cricket Ground as they defended their total of 97-7.
Komal Khan-led Stars have also avenged their one-run and one-wicket losses to Challengers in the two league-stage matches and ended their seven-match winning streak. Off-spinner Rozina Akram was the standout bowler for Stars as she defended eight runs in the last over and finished with stunning figures of one for nine in four overs.
Rozina was supported by Rukhsar Arif, who gave only 16 runs in her four overs and plucked the vital scalp of Challengers skipper Fizza Fiaz after she had threatened to take the game away by hitting one six in her 11-ball 10.
Sawera Ramzan was the other bowler among wickets as she returned one for 12 in her two overs, while six of the Challengers batters were run out. Opening batter Pakeeza Shabbir was the only standout batter for the runners up and kept them in the game till the last over with her 65-ball 40 striking four fours.
With six runs required off the last three balls, Pakeeza charged down the wicket to Rozina and holed out to Aqsa Habib at wide long on, who grabbed a brilliant catch by jumping high in the air as any error might have leaked a boundary.
Pakeeza stitched a 27-run stand with Memoona Khalid (12, 13b, 1x4) after Challengers had slipped to 27-4 before Memoona fell short of her crease. No.8 batter Mahnoor Zeb also added 19 runs in company of Pakeeza by scoring nine runs but in vain as they could only managed 93-8 in the allotted 20 overs.
Earlier, Stars limped to the 97-run total courtesy contributions from Aqsa Habib (34, 38b, 3x4s) and Komal Khan (30, 26b, 4x4s, 1x6), while the next best score was by Afsheen Imran, who scored 10 off 20 without any boundary. Rozina remained unbeaten for four runs after walking in to bat at 75-5.
For Challengers, Aleena Shah picked up three for 16, while Farya Sadaqat, Huba Nadeem, Memoona Khalid and Mahnoor dismissed one batter each.
