Severe monsoon rains have triggered devastating floods across Pakistan, affecting Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Azad Kashmir. Despite contributing only 0.9% to global carbon emissions, Pakistan is the 5th most climate-vulnerable country, highlighting a clear case of climate injustice.
Since June 26, over 200 people have died and many more injured, including children, due to rain-related incidents. In Gilgit-Baltistan, a record-breaking 48°C heatwave accelerated glacier melt, leading to Glacial Lake Outburst Floods (GLOFs), flash floods, and landslides. Roads, including sections of the Karakoram Highway, are blocked, leaving many stranded. Authorities have declared emergencies in affected areas.
This is not just a natural disaster—it is a harsh reality of climate change, where Pakistan bears the brunt despite minimal responsibility.
