Two people were injured in a firing incident outside the Session Court in Skardu. According to police, the son of a woman murdered several years ago opened fire on the accused in his mother’s case, injuring the suspect Adil and his uncle. The shooter was immediately arrested on the spot.

According to local sources, around six to seven years ago a woman was killed in Shigri Kalan over a land dispute. The victim’s son reportedly recognized his mother’s alleged killer outside the court today and opened fire in retaliation.

Police have taken both the injured and the suspect into custody while further investigation is underway.

Protests have erupted in Gilgit and Yasin Valley following the alleged murder of Raja Kashan, a young resident of Sultanabad, Yasin Valley. The 2 suspects, Shahran Ali and Shahid Hassan, have been arrested and reportedly confessed to the crime. Police have recovered the murder weapon and some of Kashan’s personal belongings, and a search operation is underway to recover his body from the river near Skarkoi. The motive behind the killing is still under investigation, as locals demand swift justice.

Officials in a National Assembly climate committee meeting revealed that tree-cutting continues across Gilgit-Baltistan, with interference at higher levels often preventing action against illegal logging.

The Additional Secretary of Forests said timber from other parts of Pakistan is now being sent to Gilgit-Baltistan, and even the official vehicle of the current forest minister was found carrying wood. Fifty-nine forestry employees have been dismissed for illegal logging.

Forests now cover just 3.58% of Gilgit-Baltistan, with most of Diamer’s forests in private hands. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa officials also briefed the committee, noting that research on forest conditions over the past 20 years is ongoing, especially after floods and monsoon damage.

The China Memorial Cemetery in Danyor, Gilgit-Baltistan, was established in the 1970s to honor the Chinese workers and engineers who lost their lives during the construction of the Karakoram Highway (KKH) in the 1960s and 1970s. Located about 10 km from Gilgit city, the site contains 88 graves, each with tombstones inscribed in Chinese.
Renovated in 2013, the cemetery is maintained as a memorial park and is visited by locals as well as relatives of the deceased. Today, it stands as a lasting symbol of the sacrifices made during the KKH’s construction and the enduring Pakistan–China friendship.

Gilgit city continues to face severe traffic congestion due to the lack of a proper traffic management system and poor road infrastructure. During peak hours, especially at school closing times, roads are choked, leaving commuters and students stranded for long periods.
