Sindh, a fertile province of Pakistan, holds a leading position in the country’s agricultural sector, particularly in the production of bananas and guavas. Two cities—Tando Allahyar and Larkana—stand out for their exceptional contributions in this regard.
Tando Allahyar is considered the banana capital of Pakistan. Sindh contributes around 94% of the country’s total banana yield, producing approximately 140,000 to 150,000 tonnes annually across about 45,000 hectares of farmland. Among all districts, Tando Allahyar ranks first with a remarkable annual production of 62,000 tonnes, followed by Thatta with 47,000 tonnes. Other districts such as Khairpur, Nawabshah, and Ghotki also play vital roles in banana cultivation. What sets Tando Allahyar apart is the superior taste and quality of its bananas. These bananas are notably sweeter, more flavorful, and slightly smaller in size compared to those from other regions. The region’s fertile soil and ideal climate make it perfect for banana farming, making Tando Allahyar the top supplier of high-quality bananas across Pakistan.
Larkana, another important agricultural hub in Sindh, is famously known as the "City of Guava." The region produces 30 to 35% of Pakistan’s total guava supply, with thousands of acres dedicated to its cultivation. The guava season in Larkana begins in November and lasts until March, ensuring a steady supply during the winter months. Larkana’s guavas are unique in size and appearance—they are smaller, have a slightly rectangular shape, and often feature pink flesh, although many also have sweet white flesh. Due to their exceptional quality and taste, Larkana’s guavas are not only consumed locally but are also transported to major cities across the country.
Together, Tando Allahyar and Larkana represent the agricultural richness of Sindh, playing a vital role in feeding the nation with high-quality fruits that are both flavorful and economically significant.
