New York, September 19, 2025 — The Europe Today: The United States on Thursday vetoed a draft United Nations Security Council resolution that called for an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, along with the lifting of all restrictions on humanitarian aid deliveries to the Palestinian enclave.

The draft resolution, put forward by the 10 elected members of the 15-member council, also demanded the immediate, dignified, and unconditional release of all hostages held by Hamas and other groups, according to media reports. The measure won the support of 14 members, with the United States casting the sole dissenting vote.

It was the sixth time Washington has used its veto power in the Security Council during the nearly two-year conflict between Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas.

“Famine has been confirmed in Gaza – not projected, not declared, confirmed,” Denmark’s U.N. Ambassador Christina Markus Lassen said prior to the vote.
