Jamaat-e-Islami’s nationwide dharnas against the heavy petroleum levy have entered their 29th day, with party chief Hafiz Naeem-ur-Rehman announcing a march towards Islamabad on September 20.

Amid the growing public debate over petrol prices and taxation, former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi has also spoken out against the rising burden on consumers.

In a post on X, Afridi said the continuous increase in petrol prices is not solely due to global factors, but also reflects government inefficiency.

He argued that when tax collection targets are missed, the burden is shifted onto ordinary citizens through higher taxes on petrol. Afridi urged the authorities to provide relief to the public, saying inflation has already made it difficult for many families to afford basic necessities.
