Following Jamaat-e-Islami’s 29-day-long dharnas against rising petrol prices and the petroleum levy, as well as its announcement of an Islamabad march, the government has announced a petrol relief package for motorcycle, rickshaw, and small-car users.

Under the package, eligible consumers will receive a Rs100-per-litre reduction, applicable to up to 20 litres per month for motorcycles and 30 litres per month for vehicles up to 800cc. The relief is set to take effect from the night between Wednesday and Thursday.

Jamaat-e-Islami has formally rejected the relief measures as inadequate and has called for the abolition of the petroleum levy.
