Gilgit: In a significant contribution to linguistic and spiritual heritage, renowned linguist, and cultural advocate Karim Khan Saka has completed the translation of the Holy Quran into the Wakhi language. The translation uses the Latino-Greek script developed by scholars Steblin Kamensky and A.L. Grunberg.

According to Mr Saka, the translation was finalised in February this year following meticulous proofreading and formatting. The translated text is now publicly accessible online at:

This achievement adds to Mr Saka’s decades-long efforts to preserve and promote the linguistic and cultural identity of Wakhi-speaking communities.

His body of work includes Wakhi language primers, magazines, translations of books, dramas, and documentaries. These have been published internationally — including in France — and are available through global platforms such as Amazon. Mr Saka has also authored several acclaimed works on the Shina and Balti languages.

The Wakhi language, classified as “definitely endangered” by UNESCO, is spoken in the remote valleys of Gojal (Upper Hunza), Ishkoman, Broghil (Chitral), and across the borders of Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and China.
