Meta has agreed to an $18bn settlement with US states and territories to resolve claims that Facebook and Instagram harmed children.

The deal covers 48 states plus the District of Columbia and three US territories, marking Meta's largest payment over child safety litigation to date.

Meta did not admit wrongdoing as part of the agreement.

A 10-year-old girl, identified as Amal Abu Khater, was killed Monday after being shot in the back while eating inside her family's tent in Khan Younis, southern Gaza, according to medics and relatives, who said the gunfire came from nearby Israeli positions.
The Israeli military said it was not aware of the incident. The death comes amid continued violence despite a ceasefire that took effect last October, with Gazan health officials reporting more than 1,280 Palestinian deaths since it began.

Israeli forces raided and seized the Qalandiya Training Centre, UNRWA's last operating facility in occupied East Jerusalem, expelling staff and raising an Israeli flag on the site.
