Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has reportedly resigned and fled the country amidst escalating student protests. These protests, which began over a controversial quota system in government jobs, have grown increasingly violent, resulting in over 100 deaths and widespread unrest. The situation intensified after the Supreme Court reinstated job quotas that favor descendants of veterans from Bangladesh’s independence war, a policy many students see as discriminatory and corrupt. Protesters have been demanding not only the abolition of these quotas but also a public apology from Hasina, the release of detained student leaders, and compensation for the families of those killed in the protests. The government's response included internet shutdowns, curfews, and a "shoot-on-sight" order for those defying the curfew. Hasina's resignation marks a significant turn in the crisis, with reports indicating she has left for a safer location as the military is deployed to control the situation.
