Today, on International Women's Day, i am proud to announce the short film "Spezala", which tells the inspiring story of a young Pashtun girl who is determined to get an education despite the obstacles in her path.
In Pakistan and Afghanistan, over 25 million girls are out of school. The ban on girls' education has been devastating for communities, robbing girls of their future and leaving families in despair. The Taliban restrictions on women's rights have further deepened Afghanistan's crisis, as documented in a report by the International Crisis Group
I refuse to stand idly by while millions of girls are denied their fundamental right to an education. Our film is a powerful call to action, a reminder that the fight for girls' education is far from over.
"Spezala" is inspired by the remarkable courage and resilience of Malala Yousafzai, the youngest Nobel Prize winner and a fierce advocate for girls' education. Our film tells the story of a young Pashtun girl who, inspired by Malala, is determined to get an education despite the obstacles in her path. It is a story of hope and determination in the face of adversity.
As a filmmaker, I have seen firsthand how the power of storytelling can inspire us to see the world in a new way, to feel more deeply, and to take action. And the story of girls who are denied their right to learn is one that breaks my heart.
I invite you to join us in our fight for girls' education.
Share our film, speak out against the ban on girls' education, and support organizations that are working to provide education to girls in Pakistan and Afghanistan.
