Real democratic order is the only recipe

Permitting Imran Khan's party to hold a jalsa in Sangjani was bound to yield the results that the world witnessed in the federal capital. As the ruling circles are busy dealing with the PTI issue, the problems in Balochistan and KP may spiral out of control.
The PTI draws support from three quarters: Number one, local support; number two, support from overseas Pakistanis; and number three, which is very critical, support from global powers.
This situation will not die down any time soon. It will take years, maybe even decades, to control this issue, even with serious handling. Pakistan must resort to constitutional means and return to the democratic path. This is essential; without it, it's very difficult to bring all situations under control.
It has long been the practice in Pakistan for the establishment to lead the political system. However, the ideal, as tested worldwide, is that political forces should call the shots. In countries like Pakistan, the establishment controls everything. The situation is often idealized, with the establishment portrayed as a savior. However, in the case of the PTI, the situation is different. The party that emerged this time differs from those in the past. It also enjoys a support base that no previous party has had, including internal support from the military establishment. At one point, former generals and retired officers, along with their families, supported the party, and the gates were open for the PTI.
Now, it remains to be seen how to control the situation. While the military establishment has been trying to quell the problem, the judiciary has become a major player. The court's role has evolved from being part of the establishment to having an independent position, particularly after recent developments.
The judiciary now views itself as a significant power and thus cannot stand behind the military establishment. Instead, it considers itself an equal power in the current circumstances. Many judges have supported the PTI, and we have seen decisions both against and in favor of the PTI.
As the political situation increasingly focuses on handling the PTI, the issues in Balochistan are deepening. For the first time in Pakistan's history, the situation has reached this point, and the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) is similarly dire. We are preoccupied with PTI issues while the situation in the provinces is getting out of control. The mismanagement and handling of the situation are significant drawbacks.
In Balochistan, we are at a critical juncture. It is high time that leaders from parties like the PPP and PML-N, who are considered experienced and knowledgeable about the real issues and causes behind the crisis, take the lead rather than being sidelined by the establishment. Pakistan needs to find its way out of this mess.

Ready to know who won PEC Elections 2024? You are almost there

As the Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) stands on the cusp of announcing the results of its 2024 elections, a significant controversy has emerged, casting doubt over the integrity of the electoral process. With the official results set to be declared today (August 23), numerous candidates are demanding a recount of the votes cast, further fueling tensions within the engineering community.
A few hours before the announcement, which the PEC officials say would be made on the official website of the council, numerous candidates who were unofficially informed of their wins are not sure if their results will be officially validated.
The PEC elections, held on August 18, were a crucial event for roughly 300,000 voters (engineers) across Pakistan. Voting took place at 155 polling stations located in NADRA centers nationwide. The elections were highly contested, with notable figures such as Engr. Jawed Salim Qureshi, Engr. Waseem Nazir, Engr. Al Kazim Mansoor, Engr. Najeeb Haroon, Engr. Raghib Abbas Shah, and others as candidates for the highest offices.
Interestingly, unofficial results have indicated victories for the TEP candidate for chairman, Engr. Qureshi’s senior vice chairman, and NEA candidate for senior vice chairman, Engr. Shah’s chairman. However, these results have been met with skepticism. Both Qureshi and Shah have raised serious concerns about the transparency and accuracy of the counting process. Their objections have spurred a growing call among their supporters for a recount to ensure that the vote was conducted fairly and that every vote is accurately reflected.
Engr. Qureshi and Engr. Shah have both issued statements and written to the council formally, highlighting discrepancies they believe could indicate irregularities in the counting process. The election committee, which has faced mounting pressure, has assured the candidates that their objections will be reviewed thoroughly. However, the situation remains tense as the committee works to address these concerns before the official results are confirmed.
The stakes in these elections are high, with the outcomes set to determine leadership positions within the PEC for the next three years. Additionally, the controversy may cast a long shadow over the transparency of the election process.
