The federal government is considering imposing a “smart lockdown” amid rising petroleum prices with a final decision expected later this evening, media reports said, citing sources.
A meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reviewed several proposals aimed at reducing fuel consumption and transportation.
Under the proposed measures, government and private offices may operate for four days a week, with Friday, Saturday and Sunday proposed as holidays to reduce commuting and fuel consumption.
The reports said that a rotational work system for government employees was also being considered. The government is also weighing a three-day closure of markets and reduced business hours as part of the proposed measures, sources added.
The final decision on the proposed “smart lockdown” is expected this evening.
