It has become increasingly difficult to find new global legends in world sports, especially in cricket. Icons like Sachin Tendulkar, Shane Warne, and Wasim Akram were not just great players; they were cultural phenomena whose careers unfolded over long periods, allowing fans to build deep emotional connections with them. Today’s sporting ecosystem is very different. The rise of short-format cricket, packed international calendars, franchise leagues, and nonstop digital content has shortened attention spans and reduced patience among fans.

Modern athletes are constantly judged on immediate performance rather than long-term excellence. One poor series can overshadow years of consistency, while hype cycles move faster than ever. Social media, algorithms, and 24/7 sports coverage demand instant gratification, leaving little room for careers to mature organically. As a result, while there is no shortage of talented players, very few are given the time, narrative space, or emotional investment required to become true legends. In an era where everyone is in a hurry, greatness struggles to breathe.

In 2025, Faheem Ashraf earned a comeback into the Pakistan national cricket team after strong performances in domestic competitions and franchise leagues. The Pakistan Cricket Board included him in the squad for major events, recognizing his value as a fast bowling all-rounder and providing balance to the side in white-ball cricket. His recall was supported by the team management, who highlighted his ability to contribute both with the ball and lower down the order with the bat, making him a valuable asset for Pakistan’s T20 and ODI squads.

Meanwhile, Sahibzada Farhan emerged as one of Pakistan’s most consistent and explosive opening batters in 2025. After rediscovering form in domestic cricket and the Pakistan Super League, he forced his way into the national side with impactful performances. Farhan’s aggressive batting at the top of the order, including key contributions in T20 internationals and strong run-scoring displays, helped solidify his position as a regular opener. His ability to score quickly and take the attack to bowlers has made him a mainstay at the top of Pakistan’s batting lineup throughout the year.

What Happened Between Ali Tareen and the PCB?

The dispute between Multan Sultans’ owner Ali Tareen and the Pakistan Cricket Board primarily revolved around franchise fees, governance issues, and transparency within the Pakistan Super League (PSL). Ali Tareen publicly criticized the PCB for imposing what he described as an unsustainable and disproportionately high franchise fee on Multan Sultans, especially when compared to other teams. He argued that the financial model was flawed and placed unnecessary pressure on franchises, making long-term profitability difficult.

Tensions escalated when Ali Tareen openly questioned the PCB’s decision-making, revenue distribution, and overall management of the PSL. He also raised concerns about unequal treatment of franchises and lack of clarity in financial dealings. These public statements led to friction with the PCB, which viewed his comments as damaging to the league’s image.

The relationship further deteriorated when PCB officials allegedly sidelined Ali Tareen from PSL-related discussions and decision-making processes. Eventually, this strained relationship contributed to Ali Tareen stepping away from an active leadership role in Multan Sultans’ operations, with the franchise later undergoing ownership and management changes.

At its core, the conflict highlighted deeper structural issues within the PSL, including sustainability, franchise rights, and the balance of power between the PCB and team owners.

People need to understand that the UFC is a promotion whose primary objective is to promote the sport of MMA while generating profit. It is a business organization, not a governing body that defines or enforces the rules of mixed martial arts. The UFC operates within the framework of existing MMA regulations, but its decisions are ultimately driven by promotion, entertainment value, and commercial interests.

The UFC today is driven more by money and marketability than by merit. Deserving fighters do not always receive title shots; instead, priority is often given to those who can sell a fight. We have seen this repeatedly, where highly skilled and accomplished fighters — especially non-American wrestlers — were overlooked despite their exceptional abilities as mixed martial artists. Many of these fighters were ignored not because they lacked talent, but because they were not considered marketable enough, or because their fighting style was seen as too dominant, one-dimensional, or less entertaining for mainstream audiences. In modern MMA, popularity and commercial appeal often outweigh sporting merit.
