How It Works:
1. Fake Ad Creation: Scammers create a deceptive ad that looks legitimate, using similar names or designs as the original website.
2. Targeting Keywords: They target common search terms like "bank login," "customer support," or "pay bills online."
3. Phishing Site: The ad leads to a fake site that captures your information when you try to log in or make a payment.
Signs of Search Engine Ads Fraud:
The link looks slightly different from the official URL (e.g., using ".net" instead of ".com").
The site asks for unnecessary personal or payment details.
No SSL certificate (no lock icon in the browser).
How to Stay Safe:
1. Manually Enter URLs: Always type the website’s URL directly instead of clicking on ads.
2. Verify the Link: Hover over the ad to see the full URL before clicking.
3. Use Browser Bookmarks: Save official websites to your browser’s favorites.
4. Enable Ad Blockers: Reduce exposure to fraudulent ads.
5. Look for HTTPS: Only trust websites with secure connections (padlock icon).
