مستنصر حسین تارڑ پاکستان کے ممتاز اردو ادیب، ناول نگار، سفرنامہ نگار، افسانہ نویس، کالم نگار، ڈراما نگار، ٹیلی وژن میزبان اور اداکار ہیں۔ وہ یکم مارچ ۱۹۳۹ء کو لاہور میں پیدا ہوئے۔ ان کا آبائی تعلق گجرات کے ایک کاشت کار خاندان سے تھا۔ انہوں نے ابتدائی تعلیم لاہور میں حاصل کی اور گورنمنٹ کالج لاہور میں بھی زیرِ تعلیم رہے۔ نوجوانی میں انہیں یورپ اور مختلف ممالک کے سفر کا موقع ملا، جہاں انہوں نے مختلف تہذیبوں، معاشروں، فنون اور ادبی روایات کا قریب سے مشاہدہ کیا۔ یہی سفری تجربات بعد میں ان کی ادبی شخصیت کی تشکیل میں بنیادی حیثیت اختیار کر گئے۔ ان کا پہلا معروف سفرنامہ ’’نکلے تری تلاش میں‘‘ ۱۹۷۱ء میں شائع ہوا، جس کے بعد وہ اردو کے مقبول ترین سفرنامہ نگاروں میں شمار ہونے لگے۔ ان کے سفرناموں میں محض مختلف ملکوں اور علاقوں کی معلومات نہیں بلکہ فطرت، تاریخ، تہذیب، انسانی نفسیات، محبت، تنہائی، مزاح اور ذاتی مشاہدات ایک منفرد ادبی انداز میں شامل ہوتے ہیں۔ ’’اندلس میں اجنبی‘‘، ’’خانہ بدوش‘‘، ’’کے ٹو کہانی‘‘، ’’نانگا پربت‘‘، ’’چترال داستان‘‘، ’’ہنزہ داستان‘‘، ’’نیویارک کے سو رنگ‘‘، ’’ماسکو کی سفید راتیں‘‘، ’’الاسکا ہائی وے‘‘ اور ’’لاہور سے یارقند تک‘‘ ان کے معروف سفرناموں میں شامل ہیں۔ کوہ پیمائی اور مہم جوئی سے ان کی گہری دلچسپی رہی اور انہوں نے پاکستان کے شمالی علاقوں اور بلند پہاڑوں کے متعدد دشوار گزار سفر کیے، جس کے باعث ان کی تحریروں میں پاکستانی پہاڑوں، وادیوں، جھیلوں اور قدرتی مناظر کی نہایت جاندار عکاسی ملتی ہے۔ ناول نگاری میں بھی مستنصر حسین تارڑ نے اردو ادب کو اہم تخلیقات دیں۔ ’’پیار کا پہلا شہر‘‘ ان کا انتہائی مقبول ناول ہے، جبکہ ’’بہاؤ‘‘ کو ان کی اہم ترین ادبی تخلیقات میں شمار کیا جاتا ہے، جس میں وادیٔ سندھ کی قدیم تہذیب، انسانی زندگی، معاشرت اور تہذیبی زوال کو تخلیقی انداز میں پیش کیا گیا ہے۔ ’’راکھ‘‘، ’’خس و خاشاک زمانے‘‘، ’’اے غزالِ شب‘‘، ’’قلعہ جنگی‘‘، ’’قربتِ مرگ میں محبت‘‘ اور ’’ڈاکیا اور جولاہا‘‘ بھی ان کے نمایاں ناولوں میں شامل ہیں۔ ان کی تحریروں میں تاریخ اور تہذیب کے ساتھ ساتھ انسان کے اندرونی جذبات، رشتوں، محبت، جدائی، یادداشت اور وجودی سوالات کو خاص اہمیت حاصل ہے۔ ادب کے ساتھ ٹیلی وژن بھی ان کی شخصیت کا اہم میدان رہا۔ پاکستان ٹیلی وژن کی مقبول صبح کی نشریات ’’صبح بخیر‘‘ کے میزبان کی حیثیت سے انہیں ملک گیر شہرت حاصل ہوئی اور بچوں سے بے تکلف اندازِ گفتگو کے باعث وہ ’’چاچا جی‘‘ کے نام سے بھی بے حد مقبول ہوئے۔ انہوں نے ٹیلی وژن ڈراموں میں اداکاری کے ساتھ ساتھ ڈراما نگاری بھی کی اور ان کی مختلف ڈرامائی تخلیقات نے ناظرین میں پذیرائی حاصل کی۔ کالم نگاری میں بھی ان کا منفرد اسلوب سامنے آیا، جس میں مشاہدہ، طنز، مزاح، شگفتگی اور انسانی نفسیات کی گہری سمجھ نمایاں ہے۔ ان کی نثر کا سب سے بڑا وصف یہ ہے کہ وہ عام زندگی، سفر، فطرت، تاریخ اور انسانی احساسات کو نہایت رواں، بے تکلف اور دلکش انداز میں بیان کرتے ہیں۔ کئی دہائیوں پر محیط ادبی سفر میں مستنصر حسین تارڑ نے اردو ناول، سفرنامہ، افسانہ، کالم، ڈراما اور ٹیلی وژن کے شعبوں میں اپنی الگ شناخت قائم کی۔ ان کی ادبی خدمات کے اعتراف میں انہیں متعدد اعزازات سے نوازا گیا، جن میں صدارتی تمغۂ حسنِ کارکردگی نمایاں ہے، جبکہ ان کے ناول ’’راکھ‘‘ کو بھی ادبی اعزاز حاصل ہوا۔ مستنصر حسین تارڑ کی سب سے بڑی ادبی کامیابی یہ ہے کہ انہوں نے اردو ادب کو محض کتابوں تک محدود رکھنے کے بجائے اسے سفر، فطرت، پہاڑوں، تاریخ، تہذیب اور عام انسان کی زندگی سے جوڑا اور کئی نسلوں میں مطالعے، سفر اور ادب کا ذوق پیدا کیا۔ وہ آج بھی اردو ادب کی ان نمایاں اور ہمہ جہت شخصیات میں شمار ہوتے ہیں جن کی تحریر میں مشاہدے کی گہرائی، زبان کی شگفتگی، احساس کی شدت اور داستان گوئی کی غیر معمولی صلاحیت ایک ساتھ نظر آتی ہے۔
MUSTANSAR HUSSAIN TARAR is one of Pakistan’s most prominent Urdu writers, novelists, travel writers, columnists, playwrights, television hosts, actors, and storytellers. Born on March 1, 1939, in Lahore, he belongs to a family with roots in Gujrat. He received his early education in Lahore and also studied at Government College Lahore. His travels across Europe and other parts of the world played a major role in shaping his literary personality, exposing him to different cultures, societies, art, and literary traditions. His first major travelogue, “Niklay Teri Talash Mein,” was published in 1971, establishing him as one of the most popular travel writers in Urdu literature. His travel writing goes beyond descriptions of places and journeys; it combines nature, history, culture, human psychology, love, solitude, humor, and personal observation in a highly engaging literary style. Among his well-known travelogues are “Andalus Mein Ajnabi,” “Khanabadosh,” “K-2 Kahani,” “Nanga Parbat,” “Chitral Dastan,” “Hunza Dastan,” “New York Ke Sau Rang,” “Moscow Ki Safed Ratein,” “Alaska Highway,” and “Lahore Se Yarkand Tak.” A passionate admirer of mountains and adventure, Tarar has travelled extensively through the remote and challenging mountainous regions of Pakistan, bringing the country’s valleys, lakes, peaks, landscapes, and natural beauty vividly to life through his writing. As a novelist, he has made a significant contribution to modern Urdu literature. “Pyar Ka Pehla Shehar” is among his most popular novels, while “Bahao” is regarded as one of his most important literary works, portraying the ancient Indus Valley civilization, human existence, society, and cultural decline through a powerful fictional narrative. His other notable novels include “Raakh,” “Khas-o-Khashak Zamane,” “Ae Ghazal-e-Shab,” “Qila Jangi,” “Qurbat-e-Marg Mein Mohabbat,” and “Daakiya Aur Julaha.” His fiction frequently explores history, civilization, human emotions, relationships, love, separation, memory, and existential questions. Tarar also achieved remarkable popularity on television. As the host of Pakistan Television’s popular morning program “Subah Bakhair,” he became a household name, particularly among children, who affectionately came to know him as “Chacha Jee.” He also worked as an actor and writer in television dramas. His career as a columnist further established his distinctive literary voice, characterized by observation, wit, humor, satire, and a deep understanding of human nature. The greatest strength of Tarar’s writing lies in his ability to transform ordinary life, travel, nature, history, culture, and human emotions into compelling and accessible literature. Over a career spanning several decades, he has made significant contributions to Urdu novels, travelogues, fiction, columns, television, and drama. In recognition of his long and distinguished services to literature and the arts, he has received numerous awards, including the Pride of Performance. His novel “Raakh” also received major literary recognition. Mustansar Hussain Tarar’s enduring achievement is that he brought Urdu literature closer to ordinary readers by connecting it with travel, nature, mountains, history, civilization, and everyday human experience. He remains one of Pakistan’s most influential and versatile literary personalities, celebrated for his vivid imagination, keen observation, engaging storytelling, graceful language, and profound understanding of life and humanity.
