Pakistan Ki Bureaucracy Portugal Mein Jaidad Kiu Khareed Rahay Hain?
Pakistan’s politics and bureaucracy are once again in the spotlight over corruption and offshore property scandals. Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has claimed that more than half of the country’s bureaucracy has purchased property in Portugal and is preparing to obtain citizenship there.
According to Asif, the list includes several high-profile bureaucrats. This is not the first time state officials have been accused of owning assets abroad.
In May 2024, the Dubai Unlocked investigation revealed that out of 23,000 residential properties in Dubai, 17,000 were owned by Pakistanis including former army officers, politicians, and bureaucrats.
In January, the National Assembly was informed that over 22,000 bureaucrats hold dual nationality. Under a new law, officers in grades 17 to 22 are now required to declare both their domestic and overseas assets, including those of their family members.
