Statement from WAF Lahore on the Bushra Bibi Iddat case.

WAF Lahore is dismayed at the verdict of Bushra Bibi case. This verdict is an assault on women's autonomy over their bodies, dignity & privacy, setting dangerous precedent for state’s intrusion into the private lives of citizens. We fear a repeat of history akin to the Zina Ordinance of the 1980s.

Additionally a decade on, WAF reminds of the Women Protection Act, 2006, aimed at safeguarding women from misuse of existing laws. Yet, invoking sections 496 and 496-B PPC at the state's whim renders these protections futile. We condemn such patriarchal criminal trials and the dangerous precedents they set for women of this country.
