Senior Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Senator Irfan Siddiqui stated that no meeting took place between a visiting US delegation and former prime minister Imran Khan in prison, and added that Imran Khan himself is not willing to meet members of his own party.

Speaking to a private news channel, Siddiqui said, “If Imran Khan doesn’t want to meet anyone from PTI, what can the government do?”

He noted that leaders who served decades-long prison terms for their principles never received the kind of frequent visits Imran Khan enjoys. “PTI has no ideology or principle. Their only concern seems to be: ‘how can we get a meeting?’” he remarked.

According to Siddiqui, jail protocols require a list of visitors to be sent to the inmate, who then decides whom to meet. “This is not a big issue. If not today, a meeting happens the next day.”

Criticising PTI’s internal divisions, he said most of its prominent figures see themselves as the entire party and don’t recognise others. “PTI has become a disorderly group, circling in confusion

US stocks soared on Wednesday following President Donald Trump’s announcement of a 90-day pause on some reciprocal tariffs, a move that sent markets into a historic rally.

The news of the tariff shift came just as Wall Street was anxiously awaiting any sign of change in the president’s trade policy, which had previously sent markets into turmoil.

Trump’s announcement, which authorised a temporary halt to most of the tariffs, with the exception of those against China, spurred an immediate surge in US markets.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average skyrocketed by 2,963 points, or 7.87%. The S&P 500 jumped by 9.52%, while the tech-heavy Nasdaq soared by 12.16%.

The rally marked one of the most significant single-day rebounds in recent memory. The S&P 500 posted its best day since October 2008, and the Nasdaq had its best day since January 2001. The Dow experienced its best performance in five years.

Widespread market gains

The rally was widespread, with nearly every company in the S&P 500 seeing gains. Amazon saw a notable increase of 11.98%, while Nike rose by 11.36%. Airline stocks led the charge, with United Airlines soaring 26.14%, followed by Delta Air Lines up 23.38% and American Airlines, which surged 22.6%.

On the Nasdaq, tech giants also enjoyed significant gains, with Apple climbing 15.33%, Nvidia rising 18.72%, Palantir gaining 19%, and Tesla seeing an impressive 22.69% surge.

The S&P 500, which had recently been on the brink of entering bear market territory, is now up 12.86% from its recent low, although it remains 3.7% down from its peak on April 2, just before the announcement of the tariff changes. The Nasdaq remains 2.7% down from that date.

A volatile path to clarity

Trump’s move marked a shift in the volatile trajectory of US trade policy. For weeks, investors had been on edge as the president escalated the trade war with China, imposing heavy tariffs on Chinese goods. However, his new announcement provided much-needed clarity for Wall Street, and investors jumped at the chance to buy up stocks at discounted prices.

M***i Taqi Usmani, a prominent Islamic scholar and head of Wifaq-ul-Madaris, has called on the Muslim world to impose a complete boycott of Israel, condemning the global community.

He stressed that protests against Israel must be peaceful, while warning that any harm to individuals or property is strictly prohibited under Sharia law.

The call was made during the National Palestine Conference held in Islamabad on Thursday where numerous Islamic scholars from various schools of thought gathered to address the ongoing crisis in Gaza and Palestine, Express News reported.

While condemning the failure of Muslim countries to act against Israel, M***i Usmani questioned the purpose of Muslim armies and their weapons if they are not used to defend the oppressed Palestinians in Gaza. “If Muslim countries' armies are not engaging in jihad over Gaza, what purpose do they serve?” he said.

The reknowned clreric said that it is essential to keep Gaza alive and to completely boycott the products of Israel and its supporters while emphasizing the need to also boycott companies that aid Israel.

However, he stressed that protests against Israel should not result in harm to anyone’s life or property, as causing harm to others through stone-throwing or violence is prohibited in Sharia and the boycott of Israel and its supporters' products should be carried out peacefully.

The call for non-violence came after a mob attacked a branch of an international fast-food chain in Mirpurkhas late Tuesday night, damaging the building and setting part of it on fire.

M***i Usmani reaffirmed Pakistan’s stance, emphasising that the country has no relations with Israel and that it will not recognise the state of Israel.

He reminded the audience that the founder of Pakistan, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, had declared Israel an illegitimate state before the creation of Pakistan, and this position remains unchanged.

M***i Usmani also criticised the United Nations for enabling Israeli violence and noted the failure of the global community to hold Israel accountable while calling for a clear and unified declaration of jihad against Israeli occupation, stressing that Muslim leaders cannot shy away from their duty.

Speakers at the conference highlighted the dire situation in Gaza, with reports stating that over 60,000 Palestinians have been martyred, including women and children.

World leaders reacted with disappointment and growing alarm on Thursday after US President Donald Trump announced sweeping reciprocal tariffs on imports, triggering fears of a global trade war and renewed economic instability.

The new policy, announced on what Trump dubbed "Liberation Day", sets a baseline 10% tariff on all imports to the US from April 5.

From April 9, steeper duties—ranging from 17% to 49%—will be imposed on around 90 countries that Washington claims maintain unfair tariffs on American goods.
