Landmark Judgment by the Supreme Court — PLD 2024 SC 1273
In a significant legal development, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of a woman who had been deprived of her rightful inheritance, dower (mehr), and valuable land by her brothers. The parents had also transferred all property to the sons during their lifetime, excluding the daughter entirely.
The Court ordered that the woman be granted her full legal share in inheritance and compensation, and imposed a fine of Rs. 500,000 on the brothers for the unlawful denial of her rights.
