Shehnaaz Gill was recently performing at an event in Mumbaiwhere she was about to sing, when she heard Azaan and did not proceed in respect.
Shehnaaz is receiving her award for Lokmat Digital Personality of Year, where the host asks her to sing a few lines. He says, "It feels so nice. No one else deserved this award better than you. Please sing a few lines, just anything. Whatever you have in your heart, just sing those few lines. Your fans are waiting eagerly for you to sing. I have requests saying people won't eat unless Shehnaaz sings."

As a reply to it, she first says, "Should I sing an unreleased song?" and then immediately said, "No, that cannot be. No, I will sing a song that is already out." She was about to start when she heard Azaan and paused there and bowed her head in respect.

Justice Shahid Karim of the Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued a ban on tree cutting in educational institutions, stating that any complaints regarding the matter should be sent to the Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE).

The decision was made during the combined hearing of multiple petitions related to controlling smog, reducing pollution in society, and preventing the wastage of groundwater.
During the hearing, an environmental commission report was submitted, assuring the court that all necessary measures were being taken to combat smog. The court was also informed that various departments were working together to combat encroachments and maintain traffic flow.
Advocate General Punjab, Shan Gull, requested permission to transfer DG LDA, DG PHA, and CTO Lahore. The court granted permission for the transfers of DG PHA and CTO Lahore but prohibited the government from transferring DG LDA. Justice Karim questioned why the government wanted to transfer DG LDA.
The court ordered the provincial government to produce any evidence it had to support its claims, and made it clear that it should not interfere with the court’s proceedings.

Justice Karim also directed concerned authorities to display emergency helpline numbers to promptly address complaints about traffic jams.

RAWALPINDI:
Following protests by the citizens and the Poultry Research Institute and the federal government has partially restored the Murghi P**l scheme, an initiative of the erstwhile Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led government, after a brief suspension.

Sources said the funds for the programme have been slashed by 70% while 30% of the funds have been released.

According to sources, in the ongoing budget, 50% of the project funds were released on July 1, 2022, and at the beginning of January 2023, the project was completely abolished and released funds were also withdrawn.

The Poultry Research Institute while returning the funds had sent a protest letter, stating that the return of funds would not only hurt the institute's investment in the project but would also inflict a heavy loss to the public exchequer.

In addition to this, the citizens who deposited the money along with the applications for the project were demanding the provision of chickens instead of money.
Some citizens also threatened to go to court. However, after discussions in the Punjab and federal bureaucracy, it was decided to partially resume the programme.

According to sources, the federal government approved the restoration proposal with further cuts to the project fund. Approval has been granted to distribute the poultry sets from the fund till June 30.

The federal finance ministry has released the funds to the Poultry Research Institute. Assistant Director Dr Atif, the project’s In-charge in Rawalpindi, said that the project has been partially resumed. Soon after the funds were released, the breeding work was started in Punjab’s 11 poultry farms, he said. “These chicks will be from April 30 to May 7 and the first batch will be distributed among the citizens by May 15 while the second and the last batch by June 15,” Dr Atif said.

According to sources, there was a plan to distribute 0.5 million chickens from February to June 30, 2023, but after the deduction in funds, this target has been reduced to 0.3 million chickens.

A set, comprising five hens and one rooster, will be available for Rs1,180. According to the project in charge, the fowl is a crossbreed of indigenous and pure breeds whereas the crossbreeds of indigenous and Egyptian breeds are also included.

In the first phase of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) "Jail Bharo Tehreek (court arrest movement)", the party’s senior leaders — Shah Mahmood Qureshi and Asad Umar — have voluntarily decided to surrender themselves to the authorities.

Addressing a press conference in Lahore, senior party leader Fawad Chaudhry said that PTI Vice Chairman Qureshi and PTI Secretary General Umar have announced voluntary surrendering before the law enforcers.

In the wake of sedition cases filed against his party leaders including Fawad Chaudhry, Azam Swati and Shahbaz Gill, PTI Chairman Imran Khan on February 4 announced "Jail Bharo Tehreek".

Fawad welcomed a statement reportedly issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) that the body was “ready to hold elections in 90 days”.

He termed the announcement “a right step in the right direction.” In the same breath, the PTI leader said that President Arif Alvi set April 9 as the date for the general election in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa — the move rejected by the ruling alliance — adding that the date could not be changed as per the Election Act and the Constitution.

A day after the ECP excused itself from holding consultations with President Alvi on polls in the provinces, the head of state on Monday (yesterday) announced holding elections in the two provinces on April 9.

Moving towards the upcoming elections in the country, the PTI leader said that the party would start allocating tickets to the candidates from next week. The PTI’s election campaign will reach its peak when Khan will join it within one-and-a-half weeks.

Chaudhry said that Khan has directed the party to kickstart preparations for the upcoming elections. He urged the PTI’s candidates to launch election campaigns in their respective constituencies.

The PTI would launch a countrywide public awareness campaign, he added.

Referring to the National Accountability Court's (NAB) notices to the PTI leadership in the Toshakhana scam, Fawad said that the anti-graft watchdog’s chairman has exposed the government by tendering his resignation.

In a separate statement, Shah Mehmood Qureshi said four other PTI leaders will surrender themselves along with him and if the police didn't arrest them they will make another attempt from Multan.

"If the election process is started on President Arif Alvi's advice, there will be no need for the court arrest movement," the former foreign minister added.

Qureshi welcomed Parvez Elahi into the PTI fold but evaded a question regarding the former Punjab chief minister's presidentship status in PTI.
Aftab Sultan resigns
Earlier today, Aftab Sultan tendered his resignation as NAB chairman, after reportedly refusing to "toe the line".

Speaking to The King Maker , Sultan said that he had resigned from the office a few days ago. “I was asked to do certain things which were not acceptable to me.”

Referring to Khan’s appearance before the Lahore High Court (LHC) a day earlier, Fawad said that the way the workers welcomed the PTI chairman has triggered uneasiness among the Pakistan Democratic Movement-led government.

PTI Lahore chapter President Imtiaz Shaikh announced that former Punjab governor Omer Sarfraz Cheema, Waleed Iqbal, Murad Raas, Muhammad Khan Madni, and Fawad Rasool, accompanied by 200 workers will voluntarily surrender themselves to the authorities in the metropolis tomorrow.

“Jail Bharo Tehreek” will begin from Lahore's Charing Cross at 2 pm, he added.

'IMF deal tactic to avoid default'
For his part, PTI leader Azhar lashed out at the coalition government over the Finance (Supplementary) Bill 2023.

A day earlier, the National Assembly unanimously approved the government’s much-needed ‘mini-budget’ — a move mandatory for seeking a $1.1 billion tranche of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan.

Reacting to the move, the former finance minister said that bill was sailed through the NA against the law and the Constitution. Slamming Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, the PTI leader said that he brought the country to the verge of economic collapse.

He termed the IMF deal “a tactic to avoid default”. Azhar criticised the ruling alliance over rising inflation in the country.

“Immediate elections are the sole solution to instability,” the PTI leader claimed and urged the ECP to announce a date for the polls.

Amid rising inflation, economic disaster, violation of the Constitution, and torture of PTI workers, the party has no other option but to resort to court arrest, said Azhar.

Streaming giant Netflix is pressing on with it’s foray into Indian television content with Heeramandi.

The series will be directed and produced by filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali, renowned for his ‘more is more’ style and films like Devdas and Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela. The expected cast of Heeramandi is Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Aditi Rao Hydari, Richa Chadha, Sharmin Segal, and Sanjeeda Sheikh.

In post-production at the present time, the series revolves around the courtesans of Lahore and their lives before partition. The news was made public following a fireside exchange between Bhansali and Netflix co-CEO Ted Sarandos, according to IndiWire.

“Audiences want stories that help them escape and connect, and Sanjay is an exceptional storyteller who does both,” Sarandos said.

“Heeramandi, like all of Sanjay’s stories, is not style over substance but style and substance together. At Netflix, our responsibility to creators is to give them the tools to do their life’s work and empower them to bring their vision alive. We’re thrilled to collaborate with a visionary like Sanjay and bring the world of Heeramandi to a global audience.’

Speaking at the event Bhansali said: “Heeramandi has a special place in my heart as it has stayed with me for 14 years…The most compelling aspect of storytelling for me is the opportunity to represent real characters, especially women, and portray their emotions with interesting nuances. The women of Heeramandi are queens in their own right, and my effort with this story is to bring these historic characters to life with a modern approach. Netflix made this possible for us by nurturing and making an artist like me feel at home.”

“Heeramandi is the biggest project that I’ve made, it’s so huge in scale,” he said. “I had to do something special … to make [Sarandos] proud.”

No release date has yet been announced for the series.

LAHORE:
Former prime minister and PTI chief Imran Khan on Monday secured relief from the Lahore High Court (LHC) as he appeared before the court in two separate cases after being given the “last chance” for an in-person appearance.

LHC’s Justice Ali Baqar Najafi approved the protective bail in a case related to offence 7-ATA along with others mentioned in the FIR after hours-long delay as Imran was unable to enter court room due to a large crowd gathered outside the court to welcome the former prime minister.

The second petition was heard by a single bench led by Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh which disposed of the PTI chief’s bail application in a case pertaining to protests outside the ECP.

A two-member bench led by Justice Najafi conducted the hearing on the terror charges case and accepted the PTI chief’s plea to grant him a protective bail till March 3.

During the hearing of the case, Imran told the court that he respected the courts and added that his doctors had advised him against walking due to his leg injury.

“My party’s name is Tehreek-e-Insaf (movement for justice) and I expect the same from courts,” he added.

Earlier, the Imran’s counsel had requested the court to verify his client’s presence through the court staff as the PTI chief was facing difficulty in entering the court due to the security reasons and presence of large number of workers.

However, the court rejected the request and ordered the security in charge of the LHC to present the PTI chief before the bench.

The PTI chief arrived at the LHC amid tight security. He entered the court premises following security clearance.
The former premier first appeared before the division bench headed by Justice Ali Baqar Najafi in a case related to offence 7-ATA along with others mentioned in the FIR.

It is pertinent to mention that on February 16 the same division bench had dismissed as “non-prosecution” the protective bail of the PTI chief.

The protective bail was again filed earlier today that was fixed before the same bench.

Imran then appeared before Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh's court wherein he had filed a protective bail in a case pertaining to protests outside the ECP.

Thousands gathered 'voluntraily'

PTI leader Fawad Chaudhry, while addressing the party workers gathered outside the LHC, said that Imran is unable to enter the court room as thousands of people are present outside the LHC premises.

“Those who are running campaign against judiciary are not being summoned by the courts but Imran Khan was summoned despite security threats and medical reasons,” he said.

Fawad said thousands of people ‘voluntarily’ came out to welcome their leader and added that managing security within the court premises was the responsibility of the judges to clear the way for Imran to enter the court room.

Several PTI leaders maintained that it would be risky for Imran to move towards court amid presence of a large number of workers as any potential stampede could further worsens his leg injury.

The police on the other hand were reluctant to use force to disperse the workers to avoid any untoward situation.

Earlier, Justice Najafi adjourned the hearing for half an hour till 7.30pm. Following the court's direction, Imran Khan finally entered the court room at 7:35pm.
Earlier, the LHC gave Imran a 'last chance' to appear before the court by 5 pm in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) protest case.

Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh presided over the hearing of the PTI chief's protective bail in the ECP protest case wherein Imran was to appear before the LHC for the verification of his signatures on three documents.

As proceedings commenced after adjournment, petitioner Imran's counsel Khawaja Tariq Raheem complained to the court about inadequate security arrangements. He said they held a meeting with Inspector General Police (IGP) Punjab, who assured complete security as well as a signal-free Mall Road from the PTI chief's Zaman Town residence to the court.

"But the Mall Road is choke full of traffic," lamented the counsel.

With regards to security arrangements at the court, the IGP told them to contact the LHC Registrar's Office, who dismissed their application wherein they had sought permission for Imran's vehicle to enter the LHC premises.

"It is not my job to grant permission to Imran’s vehicle," Justice Sheikh remarked and added that the PTI chief has been summoned for verification of signatures.

The LHC judge summoned Imran by 5pm after the former premier failed to appear by 2pm as per the court's order.

The security at the court was beefed up ahead of the former prime minister's appearance.

More than two hundred police officials were deployed outside the courtroom and barricades were installed.
The difference in the signatures was noted by Justice Sheikh while hearing petitioner Imran's protective bail plea last week.

On February 16, Justice Sheikh had summoned Imran Khan by February 20 (today) after PTI's counsel had ensured the appearance of the petitioner before the court.

Imran to appear shortly

In a tweet, PTI leader Hammad Azhar said that Imran will leave his residence in Zaman Park for the LHC in half an hour and will reach the court at 4pm.
Meanwhile, party senior leader Fawad Chaudhry while confirming Imran's appearance at 4pm said that "attendance is only for judicial respect against the opinion of both medical and security officials, otherwise it is neither a case nor a justification for being called."
Last opportunity'

Justice Sheikh presided over the hearing today and stated that it is the PTI chief’s “last opportunity” to appear in court by 5pm.

Imran had not appeared in court earlier due to unsatisfactory security arrangements as PTI leaders were concerned regarding the lack of security measures taken, despite assurances from the police.

The Mall Road outside the LHC remained packed due to a traffic jam as the police failed to clear the road as discussed with the former ruling party's members.

The PTI leaders said that it is “risky” for the ex-PM to go to the court under such conditions, adding that the IG Police should be instructed to clear the road.

In a meeting, the IGP had said that Mall Road would be cleared and there would be maximum security outside the premises. However, he had directed the party leaders to approach the LHC registrar regarding security inside the premises.
When the PTI declared the security measures insufficient, the court accepted Imran’s absence, moving on to question whether the signatures belonged to him.

PTI chief’s counsel Khwaja Tariq Rahim admitted that the signatures were not Imran’s and that he did not file the plea.

“If the signatures were not his then he should come to ask for forgiveness,” stated Justice Sheikh.

The court threatened to issue a show-cause notice to Imran Khan. However, his lawyer assured the court that he would be present by 5pm. He also requested the court to direct the IGP to provide satisfactory security.

Subsequently, the LHC granted Imran a last chance to appear in court by 5pm today.

Entrance to LHC's premises rejected

The petitioner’s application seeking permission for the entrance of his vehicle into the LHC's premises today due to Imran's health and security condition was rejected.

In reference to the PTI chief’s application filed two days earlier, the concerned authority denied permission for entrance to the court.

The LHC has declined the request regarding entry through Masjid Gate but has allowed Imran’s vehicle to enter the GPO gate up to the Drop Down Barrier/Litigant Centre near the attorney general’s office.

It is pertinent to mention that the administrative authority was informed of Imran’s health issues as well as the danger to his life, given that he had already survived an assassination attempt and is still facing threats.

The PTI chairman’s chief of staff Senator Shibli Faraz in a press conference stated that he had requested permission from the LHC to allow Imran’s car to enter the premises until a specific point. However, he said that this request was denied.

Faraz explained that the request is “justified” given the ousted premier’s medical and security situation.
According to Faraz, the PTI chief’s doctors have said that he cannot afford to experience any physical injury. He added that Imran has appeared in court for multiple cases before the attempt on his life.

However, following the assassination attempt, he can no longer afford to appear without ensuring security measures. “Imran Khan has no reason not to appear in court apart from his security and health situation following the assassination attempt that took place only a few months ago,” he said.

The PTI leader informed that efforts are being continued to ensure Imran’s safety before his appearance in court.

Meanwhile, PTI leader Shahbaz Gill will also appear in the high court today in connection with the sedition case against him.
In a tweet, Gill said that if Imran’s car is not allowed near the court, it is uncertain whether the PTI chief will be able to reach the court safely. “Ground realities should be taken into consideration,” he added.

Single bench

On Thursday, Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh presided over the proceedings where the case took a new turn when Justice Sheikh keeping aside the issue of “the petitioner’s presence into the court is prerequisite for getting protective bail” questioned the difference in the petitioner’s signatures on three documents (petition, affidavit and power of attorney).

Justice Sheikh made it clear that he would issue a contempt notice to either Imran or his counsel over deceiving the court. However, the proceedings were adjourned for a short interval with direction to PTI’s counsel advocate Azhar Siddique to explain his position regarding the three documents.

Siddique argued that there are two major issues: one being Imran’s health and the second being his security.
"The petitioner has already survived an assassination attempt. Taliban groups had threatened to kill him. How, under such circumstances, could he appear before the court in the absence of security clearance?" he said.

The lawyer further argued that the court could constitute a commission to send to the petitioner’s residence to testify his signatures or take his view via a video link.

The court rejected all suggestions made by the counsel and said that Imran should be present in the LHC, otherwise his petition will be dismissed.

LAHORE:
The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday suspended the de-notification order by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for another 20 Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers, restraining the electoral watchdog from holding by-polls in the concerned constituencies.

The court also suspended the National Assembly speaker’s notification under which the resignations of the former ruling party’s lawmakers were accepted and issued notices to the quarters concerned seeking their replies.
LHC’s Justice Shahid Karim heard a petition filed by 20 PTI MNAs including Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Pervez Khatak, Asad Umar, and others challenging two notifications – one issued by the National Assembly speaker through which their resignations were accepted and the second of ECP in which they had been de-notified.

Petitioners’ counsel Barrister Ali Zafar argued that the PTI lawmakers had [already] withdrawn their resignations before the NA speaker accepted them.

It may be noted that the same bench had suspended the de-notification of 43 PTI MNAs earlier this month under similar pretenses.
In a statement after the verdict, the ECP issued a statement dispelling the impression about the suspension of by-polls on the seats of the 43 MNAs.

An ECP spokesperson had said the order would not affect the schedule of the polls already announced for Mar 16 and 19 on a total of 30 seats in Punjab as the seats involved in the case before the court were separate from those where by-polls had been announced.

Barrister Ali Zafar, maintaining his line of argument from the previous case, stressed that the 20 lawmakers from Punjab had also withdrawn their resignations prior to the approval issued by Speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and the subsequent de-notification by the electoral supervisory body.

The PTI's lawyer argued in court today that the incumbent NA speaker had been correct to insist on individual verification of the en masse resignations tendered by the PTI in protest against Imran Khan's ouster from office -- a move the PTI had often decried.
However, Zafar regretted that the due procedure was not followed by the speaker, claiming that none of the MNAs had individually verified their resignations.

After hearing the arguments, the LHC suspended the two notifications deseating the 20 MNAs and restrained the ECP from holding by-elections in those constituencies.

Meanwhile, Justice Karim also sought a reply from the electoral body, adjourning the matter relating to the Speaker National Assembly's notification until March 7.

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman and former prime minister Imran Khan has submitted a letter to the Supreme Court, requesting that a hearing on his audio leaks petition be fixed "at the earliest possible opportunity".

The detailed letter to all judges of the apex court including the chief justice of Pakistan (CJP) was shared in a tweet on the party's official Twitter handle on Monday.

According to the letter, Imran has urged the SC to set the matter for an immediate hearing as he had filed the constitutional petition in October last year.
The chief justice and honorable judges are also requested to take steps to protect the fundamental rights under the Constitution, especially the right to privacy of the citizens under Article 14," the party tweeted.
It added that Imran Khan has presented eight important questions in front of the chief justice and judges of the Supreme Court regarding the matter.
In the letter, Imran noted that "constitutional guarantees afforded to the people of Pakistan are being violated with impunity" and referred to the case of Senator Azam Swati who "suffered from the worst kind of invasion of privacy possible".

He highlighted that the unverified audio clips leaked on social media, purporting to carry alleged conversations between various public officials/ex-public officials, have "appeared to be either deep fakes or fabricated, edited, trimmed, and joined, pieced together, and cannibalised to present an inaccurate and incorrect portrayal of the alleged conversations that they purport to carry".
Further, he noted that certain leaked audios suggest that conversations taking place in the prime minister's house and office are being surveilled.

"The prime minister's office is a highly sensitive state installation where matters of great national sensitivity and importance are discussed. A breach of security in this premises has a grave effect on the lives, livelihood, safety and security of the people of Pakistan," he added.

"Under what floor are the people subject to such widespread surveillance and recording, by whom, to what end, under what constraints, and with what checks and balances in place? Can the conversations be recorded at any will without any lawful authority and then doctored and released? What measures have been taken over the last several months to put an end to such breaches? Are our sensitive state installations, where matters a great consequence may be debated, secure?" he questioned.

He stated that in order for the fundamental rights guaranteed by the constitution to have meaning, the people of Pakistan, deserve answers to these questions.

Imran appealed to the top court to fix his petition on the matter of the audio leaks for hearing at the earliest possible opportunity.

𝗡𝗼 𝗽𝗼𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗳𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗜𝗺𝗿𝗮𝗻 𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝘀𝗲𝘀 '𝗱𝗲𝗺𝗼𝗰𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗽𝗮𝘁𝗵': 𝗕𝗶𝗹𝗮𝘄𝗮𝗹
Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has hinted that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan may not have a future in politics if he refuses to follow "the democratic path".

The foreign minister is presently in Germany as he participates in the Munich Security Conference.

In an interview with CNBC, the minister said "Pakistan has had a history that is not hidden from anyone. We have had more than half the time of our country's history under direct military rule and various transitions in between; at the moment I believe Pakistan is in a period of transition and absolutely it could go either way.".
It could mean a success and a strengthening of the democratic forces or it could mean a success and a strengthening of unconstitutional undemocratic forces," he added.

Bilawal went on to note that he deemed two events in the past year as significant for Pakistan's future: Imran's ouster and former army chief General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa's pledge of neutrality.
The vote of no confidence that took the PTI chief out of office, Bilwal described it as an "institutional and democratic milestone".

"You might not like the results of it [the vote of no confidence] if you are from his party," he said, "but in the course of Pakistan's history, that is a fundamental achievement that a military man has not come in and pulled out the prime minister or a court has not ordered for them to go. The democratic process has been followed."

Secondly, he said that the fact that "the former chief of army staff stood up and gave a speech in his uniform where he accepted that in the past the military used to intervene in politics and that that is not good, neither for the institution and nor for the country and they would like to transition away from that" was a noteworthy development.

He maintained that this "public" admission by the military that it wished to move from a "controversial role to a constitutional role" should be encouraged by all those in the country who support democracy.

However, he claimed that the "problem" Pakistan faces is that the "opposition is saying: no, you [the army] need to have a role, come back have a role and help us get back into power".

The minister stressed that such interventions by the army neither serve the interests of the military nor the nation.
When asked specifically if he believed Imran still had a future in Pakistan's politics, Bilawal said that while he "never says never in politics" but "encouraged" his political rival nonetheless to "pursue the democratic path".

"This has been my message to Mr Khan ever since he was prime minister or when he was leaving office and up until this day," he said adding that Imran would "most certainly have a future in politics if he strives to pursue the democratic path".

Urging the former premier to "change his protest from 'come intervene in politics' to 'everybody committing to play a constitutional role in politics'", Bilawal warned that Imran would be lost to history like many before him.

"Undemocratic forces have had their time in Pakistan's political history," he added, "but it has never been long-lived."
