In today's fast-paced, image-driven society, narcissism has become a buzzword. From social media influencers to toxic workplace leaders, traits associated with narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) seem increasingly visible. But one question frequently arises: Are women more susceptible to narcissistic personality disorder than men?
According to the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), NPD is characterized by an inflated sense of self-importance, a deep need for excessive admiration, and a lack of empathy for others. While everyone may exhibit narcissistic traits occasionally, only about 0.5% to 1% of the general population meet the criteria for a full diagnosis—and contrary to common assumptions, men are statistically more likely to be diagnosed with NPD than women.🏵️
