After announcing the project a few days ago, City Traffic Police Lahore has started monitoring traffic with drones. As per media reports, the police can monitor traffic jams, hurdles, and other issues through a drone from one kilometer away. “It will increase traffic flow, and it would be great for both citizens and police,” SP Traffic Police Shahzad Khan told the media.
Initially, two police teams are monitoring the traffic through drones in different parts of the city. “We have taken proper training of operating drone from the experts,” one of the police officials said, adding that we now know about its hardware, software, and fly time.
Meanwhile, Chief Traffic Police (CTO) Lahore Muntazir Mehdi said that the force was facing a massive jam issue in Shahdara Chowk. “From there, we decided to use technology to know about traffic jams, encroachments, and other issues in real-time,” he said.
Moreover, the police will form four teams for the drone monitoring system and appoint them in different parts of Lahore. Using the latest technology to resolve issues is a good step from the Lahore police.

26/10/2022

The Board of Investment (BoI) has invited applications for setting up a state-of-the-art fruits and vegetables pulping unit in Lahore city. The project will be completed within a year, and the estimated cost will be Rs1.745 billion. The BoI is seeking proposals for this project, where the implementing agent will be a private company with 100% private equity.

During a conversation with WealthPK, an official from the BoI stated that demand for value-added fruit products, especially the pulps, has increased dramatically due to their use as raw material in juices, ice cream, fruit yogurts, and other products. Pakistan is the fifth largest exporter of fresh mangoes in the world. Due to its rich flavour, aroma, and health value, i.e., nutrients and minerals content, it is highly sought after in the international market, the official informed. “However, we are still far from exporting mango pulp, which has a great deal of potential. In the same way, the fruit juices and beverages industry is recognised as one of the leading industries, which requires an adequate supply of fruit pulp from the local market,” he said.

“Additionally, our fruit processors require modern processing facilities in order to cater to the demands of local and international markets. In accordance with the proposed business model, fresh fruits and vegetables will be purchased directly from farmers or distributors. The finished goods will be sold on both the domestic and international markets after pulping,” the official added. The mango fruit is perishable and has a short shelf life. This results in high losses for farmers, fruit merchants, and processors. Therefore, it is necessary to process the fruit into pulp so that it can be easily stored, preserved, packaged, transported, and consumed year-round. Similarly, mango juice may prove to be a valuable raw material in the food and beverage industries with a high potential for exporting mango pulp. It is direly needed to set up a fruit pulping and grading unit mainly for mango and guava, and it must be located in the cities near to fruit producing areas, such as Rahim Yar Khan and Multan districts of Punjab province, and Mirpur Khas district of Sindh, which is feasible for easy transportation.

LAHORE:
A 17-year-old girl and an 18-year-old boy were murdered by the former’s father reportedly in the name of "honour" in Kahna town of Lahore district on Wednesday.
As per details, the victim ran away three days ago and stayed at the residence of her friend Adnan Maseeh which infuriated the girl's family.
The suspect on the day of the incident after finding an opportunity shot at the victims. Both received bullet wounds and died on the spot.

Police transferred the bodies to morgue for autopsy and were investigating the matter further after collecting evidence.
The Inspector General Police Punjab (IGP) Faisal Shahkar took notice of the incident and sought a report of the incident from CCPO Lahore. He also directed senior officers to reach at the crime scene immediately.
The Punjab IGP directed DIG operations to constitute special teams to arrest the accused as soon as possible.
All five suspects including the prime accused Sharif Mayo were later arrested in the case.
Hundreds of women are killed each year in Pakistan by family members over perceived damage to “honour” that can involve eloping, fraternising with men or any other infraction against conservative values that govern women’s modesty.
The country adopted legislation against honour killings in 2016, introducing tough punishment and closing a legal loophole that allowed killers to walk free if pardoned by family members.
Rights groups estimate that nearly 1,000 such killings take place annually.

The prices of mobile phones have increased enormously from Rs15,000 to Rs40,000 in the mobile phone markets of Lahore.
Sardar Azhar Sultan, senior vice president of the traders’ association of Hall Road, said that the cell phones’ prices increased due to a partial ban on the import of parts of cell phones.

“Due to the lack of foreign exchange, the government has made the import process very difficult,” he added.
“Due to the increase in the prices of mobile phones, the sale of cell phones has decreased significantly. It has made it very difficult for the traders to pay the rent of shops, taxes and salaries of employees and meet other expenses,” he complained.
However, a cell phone of Rs35,000 is being sold at Rs52,000, a cell phone of Rs50,000 at 66,000 and the cell phone of Rs66,000 is being sold at Rs80,000.

The import of mobile phones has witnessed a decrease of 64.38 percent during the first two months of the current fiscal year (2022-23) as compared to the corresponding period of last year.
Pakistan imported mobile phones worth US $101.864 million during July-August (2022-23) as compared to the imports of US $285.947 million during July-August (2021-22), showing a decline of 64.38 percent, according to the
Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
Meanwhile, on a year-to-year basis, the import of mobile phones also witnessed a decline of 62.17 percent during the month of August 2022, as compared to the same month of last year.
