Malaysia reports first case of Indian COVID-19 variant
Malaysia has detected its first case of a highly infectious coronavirus variant first identified in India, Health Minister Adham Baba said on Sunday, days after imposing a ban on flights from India.

The variant, named B.1.617, was detected in an Indian national screened at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, he said.

The World Health Organisation has described it as a "variant of interest", suggesting it may have mutations that would make the virus more transmissible, cause more severe disease or evade vaccine immunity. read more

"We advise the public to remain calm... All public health efforts will continue in order to break the chain of infection and ensure public safety," Adham said.

The price of dogecoin spiked more than 25% on Tuesday, shooting the value of the cryptocurrency originally designed as a joke to nearly $0.10 per coin as both the price and popularity of crypto reach historic levels.
At 2 p.m. Tuesday, dogecoin was trading at around $0.09 per coin—just below a record high of over $0.095 just before 1 p.m.

At its highest point, the price was up more than 25% from the start of the day, mainly driven by a massive midday surge that took the price from under $0.08 late in the morning to $0.095.

The price surge comes amid a significant increase in volume, with CoinMarketCap reporting a 56% rise in volume over the past 24 hours.

The U.S. is recommending a “pause” in using the single-dose Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine to investigate reports of potentially dangerous blood clots.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration said Tuesday they were investigating unusual clots that occurred 6 to 13 days after vaccination. The clots occurred in veins that drain blood from the brain and occurred together with low platelets. All six cases were in women between the ages of 18 and 48; there was one death and all remained under investigation.

In accordance with recommendations from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) will pause the use of the Johnson & Johnson (J&J) COVID-19 vaccine out of an abundance of caution. The CDC and FDA are reviewing data involving six reported U.S. cases of a rare and severe type blood clot in individuals after receiving the J&J vaccine.

IDPH has notified all Illinois COVID-19 providers throughout the state to discontinue use of the J&J vaccine at this time. In order to keep appointments, IDPH is strongly advising providers to use Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna vaccines.

Moderna and Pfizer make up the vast majority of doses on hand in the State of Illinois. This week, the state’s allocation of J&J was 17,000 doses. For the week of April 18, 2021, the expected allocation for the State is 483,720 total doses. Of that total allocation, 5,800 doses were expected to be J&J.

Per the federal health authorities, people who have received the J&J vaccine who develop severe headache, abdominal pain, leg pain, or shortness of breath within three weeks after vaccination should contact their health care provider. Patients with other clinical questions should contact their health care provider.

IDPH will continue to update the public as additional information becomes available.

ISLAMABAD: In line with the vision of Prime Minister Imran Khan to use technology in education, the Ministry of Education and Professional Training has launched an initiative of blended-e-learning.

An agreement for the purpose has been signed between Federal Directorate of Education, Knowledge Platform, Tele Taleem and Robotics Mea. Blended-e-learning is an approach to education that combines online education materials and opportunities for interaction online with traditional place based classrooms methods.

In this research based pilot project, different technologies will be used at different levels of education to test and understand the effectiveness of these technologies on the learning of students.

Federal Minister Shafqat Mahmood said the digital and blended learning was the future. “With schools all over the world redesigning because of Covid-19, blended-e-learning is becoming the new normal,” he pointed out.

(CNN)Families who lost loved ones to Covid-19 can now get help with funeral expenses from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.

The agency launched on Monday a hotline -- 844-684-6333 -- to apply for up to $9,000 in assistance per burial.
While FEMA has aided families with disaster-related burial costs in the past, the Covid-19 effort is the largest of its type. Some $2 billion was allocated as part of the $900 billion relief deal Congress approved in December, while the Democrats' $1.9 trillion package last month bolstered it by providing the agency with an additional $50 billion to use for coronavirus-related costs.

LinkedIn Adds New Job Titles for Stay-at-Home Parents amid COVID Pandemic

Recent statistics from the U.S. Department of Labor show that more than 2 million women have left the labor force in the past year, a trend partially fueled by layoffs and lack of childcare options

LinkedIn has announced several new features that will allow users to identify as stay-at-home parents or self-employed and explain employment gaps as working professionals navigate an ever-changing work landscape triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Last week the professional networking site unveiled its stay-at-home option, which allows users to add the title "stay-at-home mom" or "stay-at-home dad" to their profiles. In the coming weeks, the company will also add "parental leave," "family care" and "sabbatical" options to the growing list, CBS News reported.
