He didn't even know it.

A man with 15 years of experience sent me his resume.

He said: "Sir, koi response hi nahi aa raha. Samajh nahi aa raha kya masla hai."

I opened his CV.

4 pages. Every single job listed. Every single task written in detail.

I asked him: "Yeh sab likhna zaroori tha?"

He said: "Sir, 15 saal ka experience hai. Sab kuch important hai."

I told him: "Recruiter ke paas 15 second hain. Sab kuch padhna unka kaam nahi."

He didn't believe me.

So we did a test.

We cut his resume down to 2 pages.

Only recent roles. Only relevant achievements. Numbers, not job descriptions.

He sent it out again.

Same experience. Same person. Different result.

3 interview calls in one week.

He called me, confused: "Sir, kuch samajh nahi aa raha, maine kya change kiya bas?"

Here's what most experienced professionals get wrong:

- More experience does not mean more pages
- Recruiters skim; they don't read
- Your first job in 2010 doesn't need the same detail as your last one

A resume isn't your life story.

It's a highlight reel.

If a recruiter has to work hard to find your value, they'll move to the next resume instead.

How many pages is your resume right now?

One of the things I enjoy most about working in Performance Management is helping people move from โ€œwhat do I do?โ€ to โ€œwhat does success look like?โ€

This week, I had the opportunity to lead a goal-setting session at LUMS for the FY 2026โ€“27 appraisal cycle.

We discussed something that sounds simple but can often be challenging in practice: how to turn your responsibilities and priorities into clear, meaningful, and measurable goals.

For me, goal setting is not just about filling a form or meeting an appraisal requirement. It is about having a clear conversation around expectations, priorities, deliverables, and what we want to achieve during the year.

I also enjoyed the practical discussions and questions that came up during the session. They were a good reminder that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to goal setting; good goals need to make sense for the role and the work.

A good start to the appraisal year. Now, the real work begins. ๐Ÿ™‚
