📱 Post 1/30: The Evolution of Android – From Vision to Global Dominance
The world of mobile technology changed forever in 2003, but not in the way many people think. Did you know Android was originally designed to improve the operating systems of digital cameras?
I’m Muhammad Imran, and today I’m kicking off a 30-day series dedicated to the art and science of Android Development. Whether you are a fellow dev or an aspiring techie, let’s look at how this ecosystem began.
🔍 What is Android Development?
At its core, Android development is the process of creating applications for devices running the Android OS. It’s an open-source journey that leverages a powerful Linux-based kernel. Today, we primarily use Kotlin (Google’s preferred language) and Java, powered by the Android Studio IDE and the Jetpack library suite.
⏳ A Brief History of Innovation
2003: Android Inc. was founded by Andy Rubin, Rich Miner, Nick Sears, and Chris White.
2005: Google acquired Android Inc., pivoting the focus toward a flexible, upgradeable mobile OS.
2007: The Open Handset Alliance was formed, establishing Android as an open-source project (AOSP).
2008: The T-Mobile G1 (HTC Dream) launched as the first commercial Android device, featuring a physical keyboard and a sliding screen.
Today, Android powers over 3 billion active devices, ranging from smartphones and tablets to TVs, cars, and wearables.
