A Signal, A Smile & A Silent Lesson in Equality
Some years ago, newly married, my wife and I would leave our offices at 5 PM sharp—two young professionals, racing the clock, sometimes catching the same red light. In two separate cars, side by side, we’d smile at each other like teenagers. Once, an elderly woman saw us and smiled warmly—perhaps thinking I was flirting with a stranger. If only she knew it was my wife, and this was our little daily joy.
But behind that fun was a deeper reality.
We were both chasing our dreams, building our careers—and later, raising our kids. Together.
But somewhere along the way, my wife had to leave her exciting job at Nestlé. Not because she lacked ambition. But because the workplace didn’t flex with her life.
This week, I gave a talk on:
“How Workplaces Can Ensure Equal Opportunities for Mothers and Fathers.”
Here’s the truth:
It’s not just about empowering mothers.
It’s about freeing fathers from the “provider-only” role.
It’s about recognizing that BOTH can be great parents and great professionals—if given the right environment.
Flexible hours, paid leaves, work-from-home options—they’re not perks. They’re policies that protect talent.
Whether it’s a young mother waking up multiple times a night or a young dad stepping up equally, both deserve systems that support—not sideline—them.
This isn’t just about compassion.
It’s about retention, performance, loyalty, and leadership.
And it’s time CEOs and HR leaders recognize it.
Let’s not lose amazing people because life happened.
Let’s build workplaces where life and work can grow together.
Special thanks to Hassan Raza and the Rspace team for hosting such an amazing session with an unbelievable panel. A truly thought-provoking experience that sparked conversations we all need to be having.
