The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has enforced a new sales tax law on online orders, amending the Sales Tax Rules 2006.

Under the law, an 18% sales tax will be deducted on digital and cash-on-delivery orders. Online marketplaces, couriers, and payment agents must deduct and deposit this tax to the FBR.

New forms STR-34, STR-35, and STR-36 have been introduced for monthly reporting. Marketplaces must share supplier order details, while couriers and payment agents must issue tax deduction certificates to vendors.

The move aims to expand Pakistan’s tax net in the e-commerce sector.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit China for the first time in over seven years, signaling a thaw in relations between the two Asian powers. According to a government source, Modi will attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit starting August 31 in Tianjin.

The visit comes amid strained ties between India and the United States, following President Donald Trump's tariff hikes on Indian imports and warnings over New Delhi’s continued Russian oil trade. Modi last visited China in 2018, with relations souring.

In a powerful Friday sermon, Sheikh Yasir Al-Dosari, Imam of Masjid al-Haram, warned Muslims against sharing unverified content on social media.

He stressed that spreading fake fatwas and false pro_paganda—often through fake or bought accounts—not only causes social unrest but also damages the reputation of Islamic scholars.

He reminded believers that every post shared online will be accountable before Allah on the Day of Judgment.

The Imam also highlighted the harmful effects of smartphones and social media, which now fuel envy, isolation, and ingratitude, promoting fake lifestyles and spiritual decay.

He urged Muslims to stay cautious and responsible online.

Amid growing economic pressure, nearly 350,000 Pakistanis have migrated abroad in just six months of 2025, seeking better jobs and living standards, with a sharp rise in departures from the healthcare and technical sectors.

Low wages, limited growth, and unsafe environments have pushed thousands of nurses and doctors to relocate, leaving local hospitals understaffed and public services under strain.

Top destinations include the Gulf States, UK, and Canada, where professionals are drawn by higher pay, stability, and long-term opportunities—intensifying the challenge of brain drain at home.
